Last November, voters handed control of Congress to Republicans who pledged to cut taxes and spending. In response, Democrats decided to hold the country hostage because they want to borrow and spend $1.5 trillion on illegal immigrants and well-to-do Obamacare enrollees.
That is the simplest and most honest way to describe what has been going on since Oct. 1. But you’d hardly know it, given the way the shutdown is talked about.
The Senate has had a chance 13 times to vote on a “continuing resolution” that would keep the government operating while lawmakers debate future spending bills, including the Democrats’ wish list.
And 13 times, Senate Democrats filibustered the bill because they don’t want a debate. They want a concession.
Yet time after time, Democrats are allowed to go on news programs and spout nonsense about how this is the Republicans’ fault.
Well, try to imagine Republicans doing the same.
Imagine them refusing to keep the government running because, say, they wanted another $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon.
They wouldn’t be able to walk out their front doors without being assaulted by mobs. There would be no media outlet that would let them recite their bogus talking points, because reporters would be furiously interrupting them and calling them liars.
Every front page, every evening newscast, 24 hours a day on cable, would feature stories of the terrible harm being inflicted upon Americans. Every single one of them blaming Republicans for the misery.
Social media would be wall-to-wall with condemnations for Republicans. “Crying” celebrities would be making videos. There’d be protests across the country.
The pressure would be relentless.
Actually, you don’t have to imagine it, because it happened in 2018, when Trump refused to sign a continuing resolution that didn’t include a relative pittance for the border wall. He and Republicans got pummeled and eventually caved.
Is any of that happening today? Nope.
A big government union – from which Democrats get oodles of campaign cash – says to call off the shutdown, and it’s a minor story.
The media have been playing down the impact of the shutdown because it serves the Democrats’ interests, as we’ve noted all along. (See: “Here’s How You Know That Dems Own This Shutdown.”)
So, the shutdown continues.
We’re not so concerned with when the shutdown ends as how. No matter what, Republicans cannot and must not give into Democrats’ blackmail.

It boggles the mind. We have a 38TrillionDollar Debt but Congressional Democrats want to give health care to illegal immigrants.
This leads me to the question: Are all Democrats anti-American?
Yes, why?
Republicans had better not cave on this one. Make the Democrats show their voters who they really care about, and it’s not their voters.
“Let’s Be Clear, Republicans Would NEVER Get Away With A Shutdown Like This”
And yet here we are, the Repubicans are holding Americans hostage over the healthcare crisis, and they’re getting away with it.
Let’s see if we understand this. Republicans vote 13 times to keep government open, which would allow for negotiations on things like whether to extend Obamacare’s “temporary” COVID-19 subsidy expansion. Democrats use the filibuster to block that vote 13 times. And *Republicans* are holding America hostage? I would *love* to see you make the same case if Republicans were in the minority and blocking a CR for something they wanted.
They are refusing to extend subsidies that the Dems sunsetted and for reach people at that. Cluess lib zero info voter. The healthcare crisis has zero to do with this. Crap like this created it. Been in healthcare since before Obamination care. Same as student loans and thebhousing fiasco. Misaligned incentives leads to bad behavior.
