Why The Sudden Media Interest In The Biden Border Crisis?

After spending three years largely ignoring the border, the mainstream press is suddenly all over it, with headlines blaring about a “surge,” “crisis” and “call for action.” Why now?

Last week CNN reported that a “December migrant surge” at the southern border was the “largest in more than two decades.” Several other news outlets used similar language. The New York Times warned that “surging” Mexico border crossings “push U.S. resources to the brink.” In another story, CNN even described the situation as a “crisis.”

Weirdly, the press is even exaggerating the current “surge.” Consider that CNN story, which says:

“Border authorities encountered more than 225,000 migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border this month, marking the highest monthly total recorded since 2000, according to preliminary Homeland Security statistics shared with CNN.”

Except that’s not true. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, illegal crossings exceeded 225,000 in August, September, October, and November of this year, and in six previous months since President Joe Biden took office.

As a matter of fact, illegal crossings have averaged more than 200,000 since Biden moved into the White House.

Also weird is the fact that the Department of Homeland Security is leaking these numbers for maximum effect, given that Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has spent the past three years insisting that the “border is secure.”

Weirder still is the fact that the last time the corporate media took an interest in the border was when there was a mid-year dip in the number of “encounters,” which led them to declare that new Biden policies were “working as intended.”

The Washington Post, for example, ran a story in July titled “Southern border ‘eerily quiet’ after policy shift on asylum seekers.”

So again, we ask, why now? This is a crisis that began the moment Biden took the keys to the White House.

The Financial Times – in an article headlined “Surge in border crossings creates political upheaval in the U.S.” – offers a clue. It notes that “the migration issue is gaining salience among Democrat voters” and quotes Houston immigration lawyer Charles Foster saying: “It’s gotten to the point that the vast majority of Republicans and a growing percentage of Democrats agree with this concept that the border is wide open now.”

A December Wall Street Journal poll finds that Biden trails Trump by 30 points on voter confidence in securing the border.

But that still doesn’t explain why Homeland Security would leak information to the press designed to play up bad news.

Unless there’s something else going on.

It is part of an effort to later claim that Biden took action to address this “surge,” giving the press another opportunity to claim victory on the border?

Or is it that elites in the Democratic party – looking at Biden’s cratering poll numbers – have decided that he has to go and that playing up the border crisis could provide additional leverage to force him to step aside?

The fact that the corporate media has finally decided to report on the border crisis is good news. Just don’t mistake it for honest journalism.

  • By ‘reporting’ on the border the Democrat/Media Complex (DMC) can present Gavin Newsom, who has nice hair, as a ‘border state governor who understands the issue’ and – by extension – is ‘ready to tackle this complex issue’.

  • Just because the Democratic Party-aligned media finally decided to take border security seriously doesn’t necessarily lead to fewer border crossings, or less immigration. The media is preparing the public for a massive push for amnesty, followed quickly by a speedy drive for citizenship. Demography is Destiny. The Great Replacement Theory. Democrats have been bragging about plans to build a new coalition. They say: By the end of the 21st century, whites of Europeans ancestry will become the largest minority ethnic minority in the USA. Normally, such a development would be of little interest to me. There’s one aspect of this issue that sticks with me. It’s the nastiness of the rhetoric coming from the Left. What’s especially frustrating is how widespread anti-white racism is in mainstream media. MSNBC hosts and guests are blatant, in your face, racists, and there’s no negative consequences for the racist spewing racist garbage. The Democrats have long been reluctant to embrace patriotism, they are paranoid about Fascism, they see it everywhere, hiding beneath their beds, next to the Ku Klux Klan.

  • “The city then was an electric blend of the sacred and profane”
I recall standing next to the fountain in St Peter’s Square, way back in 1953/54, when a man in a long black coat opened one side of his cluttered coat and asked if I’d like to buy some holy pictures, rosaries, holy water, etc. Saying no, (I just bought some earlier) he then quickly opened the other side of the coat, displaying porn and small bottles of liquor, he asked; “buy dirty pictures Joe?”

  • Why? They have enough new voters for election fraud, and can finally push the narrative that democrats are concerned about the problem in an election year.

  • They are lying through their teeth, there is no ‘crisis’, it’s a big show. The government WANTS the people to come else they would not hand out all the freebies and free transportation etc. People would be sent home, not happening, same as europe. Turn off the magnet/ship em home=no more ‘crisis’. Again, they are lying.

  • It’s always the same game plan with these people. Problem, Reaction, Solution. The Hegelian Dialectic. So we have the problem, next they will decide what your reaction should be and then of course the actual goal, the “solution”
If I had to guess, the reaction which they will push is it is climate change at fault. The solution will be more taxes and further control of resources.

  • If we are going to do this democratically, I believe the media and Democratic elites are covering their collective butts in case the decision should be made to get rid of Biden as the Democratic Nominee for President.
Apparently, the Biden team has such clout that Biden has been able to hang in there and continue as the Democratic nominee.
This chink in the dike is getting play because the Democratic elites want to put it into play. The game is Biden against the elites of the Dem. Party-not Biden against any others who might want to run in the Dem. Primary.

  • I was watching Rob Schmidt on Newsmax this evening talking about the border. He asked his guest why Myorkas was treating the border like he has been told. It’s because the Dems. want to turn Texas into a solid Blue state. They will never lose anonther election, Presidential, Congress, or local if they accomplish this goal.

  • And now the thing of homeland unsexurity is set to be impeached…i think his underlings leaked to save themselves from their bosses myopic incompetence.
