John Kerry said earlier this month that we’ve reached “the last best opportunity we have to get real and serious” about global warming. What’s the difference between him and a loon walking down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue wearing one of those sandwich boards proclaiming the end of the world is nigh? We’re struggling to see any.
Kerry, the Biden administration’s special presidential envoy for climate – an office that amounts to much less than a bucket of warm spit – is part of a chorus of fearmongering that goes back more than three decades.
“In 1989 the United Nations gave us 10 years to save the world,” science site Watts Up With That posted last year.
Guess blogger Eric Worrall then went on to list more than a dozen “last chances” to stop global warming.
“If we do not heed this last chance, I’m sure there will be another last chance in the near future, just like all the previous last chances,” he said.
Dire, way-off-base predictions have been the hallmark of radical environmentalism for at least a half century. Reason’s Ronald Bailey took “a look back” in 2020 at the first Earth Day and the forecasters “who got the future wrong.” He notes that the world did not have to halve the planet’s population or stop economic growth completely “to prevent the imminent ecological cataclysm.”
Nor have we run out of natural resources, been forced to shut down automobile travel, ban luxury items, and wear gas masks in urban areas due to air pollution (though the doomsters among us are happy that we’ve been forced to mask up for a least a year for another reason).
Despite the unbroken string of erroneous predictions, we still get nonsense from the United Nations World Meteorological Organization, which says “time is fast running out” to keep global warming at bay, and drivel from U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, who insists “we are on the verge of the abyss.”
That these people, including the John Kerrys of the U.S., who are as useful as a broken leg, have not been driven from their positions of influence and authority is a near tragedy. To the extent that we need political leaders, our country and our world deserve serious, sober-minded people leading our institutions, not the pretenders, narrative-pimps, self-seekers, virtue-signalers, mindless agitators, think-they’re-still-in-high-school attention-seekers, power-hungry louts, and batty alarmists who currently dominate. It’s discouraging to think that maybe soon we’ll have our last chance to rid ourselves of these malign characters, because they have a way of settling in like a distant family member who makes a surprise visit and then won’t leave. We need to start kicking them out now.

John ‘Swiftboat’ Kerry has a long history of making up his own ‘facts’ and/or lying. Nothing he ever says about Climate Change or the Iran’s ‘secret’ Nuclear weapons program are based on provable facts.
See, it’s not about “saving the planet”.” It’s about controlling every aspect of our lives, from the food we eat, to what we drive, to where and how we live. What’s concerning is how few people are reading and commenting on your fine pieces.
Yep. First time I heard we “only had ten years” to save the planet was from Ted Danson in the 80’s. Someone should chase that doofus down and ask him what went wrong.
And California started charging for plastic bags… so the world was temporarily saved.
Ask fearmongers how many people have to be disappeared (or how much money has to be raised) to change the temperature of the earth by 1 degree. No one has an answer because human beings do not have the power to change the weather. If there was a recipe to end the global warming threat how come the hucksters won’t publish it? Instead, the only call to action is to transfer wealth and power to leftists. How much wealth and power do they need? All of it!
If global warming is even actually happening, we better put our focus on ADAPTing to it since there is no stopping it. Adapting. You know, survival of the fittest. That’s how species avoid extinction – adapting, and protecting your resources from thieves.

If the “elites ” believed there was a catastrophe about to happen, none of them would be buying sea-side properties. Or any properties, for that matter. In the meantime, they all blithely fly on their private jets.

You can have a million chances because God created the Planet and He holds it together through His Son Jesus. All this silliness about climate change tells us that folks claiming the earth will end have not read the Bible and know God! The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17! God does not need or will He choose the help of man to destroy the planet!

The Green’s core is the red Communist flag. Kerry has far more in common with Mao than Lincoln.
The problem is that the loons have taken over the commanding heights of the economy and political power.
Subsidized wind and solar power are leading to cheap overproduction that is undercutting fossil fuels (but only available unreliably and intermittently), creating the myth and illusion of those sources being cheaper than conventional power.
Even as the powers that be are purposely drying up investment capital to fossil fuels and investment dollars are flowing into dodgy “ESG funds,” artificially driving up their value.
On top of that is Joe Biden’s nutso proposal to wipe out internal combustion engines and fossil fuel use with no real effect on global CO2 levels, even as the Chinese continue to build coal plants. So we’re importing solar and wind equipment from the Chinese — made using coal power — wiping out our fossil fuel industry and tens of thousands of jobs.
I would consider these people — both in the financial and political worlds — total idiots if they weren’t so successful at rent-seeking and stealing elections.

These changes occur over the span of geologic time. But these climate folks have to insert fear and urgency in order to scam money during their geologically brief lifetimes.

It is an office with an unlimited travel budget, non-quantifiable results (he won’t get fired for doing a bad job) and the ability to make recommendations that make life more expensive, inconvenient and more difficult for the rest of us. Great work if you can get it.
In the 1990’s it was the Save the Rain Forests scam back in the early year it was Pesticides and Pollution now its Global warming/Climate Change and some Nit-Wits wan to abolish Gas Powered Cars using Politics and Junk Science to back them up as well as the M.S. Media who are Barefaced Liars
