The Democrats have decided that “affordability” is the issue that will win the next election cycle. Are they daft? The most unaffordable states and cities in the country are Democrat strongholds.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Democrat from New York, one of the least affordable states in the country, has told party leaders they need “to adopt a laser focus on the affordability crisis,” says Axios.
Politico noted that the “Democrats are gearing up to hammer the GOP on the issue,” then quickly jumped in to help, declaring that the “Republicans have an affordability problem.”
Will the Democrat strategy work? Not if voters get the facts, which we will helpfully provide.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the most unaffordable state is Gov. Gavin Newsom’s California. It is a deep blue, having been under the boot of Democrats for more than a quarter century, which, yes, includes eight years of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who ran as a Republican but governed more like the Democrats, as he was unable to break their now three-decade grip in Sacramento.
U.S. News & World Report’s six most unaffordable states are Democratic states. The only Republican state among the 15 least affordable is Florida, the seventh least affordable. At the other end, the 12 most affordable states are Republican. Only two among the top 20 are Democrat.
CNBC ranks California as the most expensive state to live in and has only three red states — Florida, Montana and Utah — among its list of least affordable states. The most expensive states based on the cost of living index, says the World Population Review, are Hawaii, California, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. Republican Alaska is fifth, and is followed by 11 blue states.
America’s most unaffordable cities are also Democratic bastions. San Jose, says the Visual Capitalist, is the least affordable city in the nation, followed by New York, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles – we could go on, but let’s shorthand it and point out that we have to get to the ninth city on the list, Miami, to find one that isn’t Democratic (though voters just elected a Democrat to be mayor for the first time in nearly three decades). The next non-Democratic city is Dallas, at No. 20.
“Nine of the 10 most expensive are big cities in blue states,” the Committee to Unleash Poverty said last month. In 2023, Fox Business reported that “Democrat-run blue cities, including some of the country’s most liberal areas such as New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, are the least affordable for homebuyers.”
Various other lists look similar – overpopulated with Democratic cities – whether they are basing their findings on retail workers looking to rent or housing costs.
From their ancient habit of adding regulation onto regulation to their affinity for taxing everything that moves to their inflationary fiscal policies and deep affection for subsidies for their favored causes and grifters, Democrats make life unaffordable for those who aren’t connected to them. Naturally, they want to twist the truth, because the facts clearly show they are the offenders.

Democrats’ religious faith, as if ordained by the Almighty, in union labor, discriminating against competitively priced non union workers, is a major reason why their newly cherished “affordability,” has become their mantra against their own needlessly expensive ideology. Building anything is far too expensive, especially housing.
“There is nothing wrong with any union as long as that union is required to compete openly and fairly against non-union providers of the services needed, especially if any public funds, taxes, credits, etc. are used to fund the job or contract.” Teachers, too!
To compete outside of my city, union contractors lower their bid prices to compete with those non-union firms, but inside the city, our monopoly of Democrats allow the union contractors to fleece all taxpayers.
Why do Democrats allow tax funded jobs and contracts to pay 25-45% more per hour for labor when there is a fair and excellent alternative to hire our excellent American workers who prefer their independence rather that being subservient to union bosses and to restrictive union work rules, which make all jobs harder and much more “unaffordable?”
Fer crissakes, even ardent liberal Fareed Zacharia admits that Democrat run cities suck a big one.
The only stat missing in this piece is the fact that, to accommodate Washington politicians and the 2022 Demo spending bill, the Federal Reserve increased the money supply by 41%. those dollars are now out there and cannot be reclaimed. these brilliant economists have obviously not read MIlton Friedman. it also lets you know that (what anyone else who is observant knew) that the Fed is highly politicized.
Simply shutting the gate after the cows are already out. At the rate property taxes are stealing homes from people, especially old people, there won’t be an economy left to buy anything in, not even if you have worthless, inflated currency.
Are we conveniently forgetting that Trump in his first term had a spending bill of almost 5 trillion dollars?
On top of that, they then printed even MORE money for COVID spending.
Republicans apparently have a horrible memory when it comes to how they LOVE blowing up the deficit every time they are in power, but then complaining about the effects later on when the chickens come home to roost.
Take a look at the data. All presidents have printed money but Biden in his zeal to destroy our country literally reduced the value of a dollar to 75 cents along with other destructive acts like ushering in an invasion of illegals. The amount of money printed under Biden dwarfs what others have done.
Obviously, the Biden administration intentionally punished the citizens with terrible policy, for the crime of electing Donald Trump in 2016.
Unfettered immigration with giveaways and the Inflation Enhancement Act being the primary culprits in the last four years.
But ultimately the Corporate Uniparty is the smith of the economic shackles that Americans now wear.
The international corporation should never have been allowed to rise.
Your giving us the privilege to comment??
You sound like the ceo of Hershey telling people it’s a privilege to have access to water.
Did y’all forget about the first amendment ??
My comment is – both parties are the problem left or right the only difference is the right moves slower in destroying this country.
Has everyone forgotten neither side has ever done anything good for the American people. Both sides brought in the illegals and now the right is playing the hero.
This country has fallen because of the secret societies that jfk warned about in his 1962 speech secret societies. Every politician is in one of several secret societies that’s roaming and destroying our nation neither side is what they say so don’t be fooled by their promises. Look at the bigger picture neither right or left can be trusted. The rich keep getting richer and the people keep getting shafted it’s just the same no matter who’s running things.
I enjoyed reading everything you put up today and it sounds like the bigger story is secret societies that’s who’s been manipulating all the rules regulations and laws and controlling every aspect of society. Just like the revolution and the civil war masons were in control on both sides to guarantee a victory for the overthrow of America. Read Albert pikes writings cause all this you see today was planned over a hundred years ago. Isn’t it strange that the only civil war statue in dc is of Albert pike
Obamas own former chief economics advisor warned Biden and Pelosi twice in 2021 that their massive spending glut would be an inflationary disaster.
The congressional criminals who run this country are to blame for everything wrong with this country today. Both sides work for the same eliete criminal group this fact has become too obvious to be denied anymore
Freemasons their all Freemasons.
Thanks for genuine insight
The Federal Reserve deserves a LOT of the blame as well.
