I & I Editorial BoardSay what you want about Zorhan Mamdani – and we have said plenty— but he may actually be smarter than every other leftist Democrat on the planet when it comes to President Trump.
First, some background.
From the moment Donald Trump descended the golden escalator in June 2015 to announce his candidacy, Democrats have been trying to destroy him. They’ve tried everything. A manufactured Russia hoax. Two impeachments. Countless legal actions and massive fines. Relentless name-calling. Two assassination attempts.
Each attempt was more desperate than the last, and all managed only to strengthen Trump’s resolve and firm up his core base of supporters.
You’d think by now that Democrats have learned their lesson. But no. Like an insane person, they keep trying the same thing, hoping for different results.
There is one – incredibly obvious — approach Democrats never tried and probably never will (which is why we are willing to say what it is):
Be nice to Trump.
In many ways, the monster that the left claims Trump to be is one of their own creation.
When he first ran for president, Trump had a long history of liberal positions on issues, and was more critical of Republicans than Democrats. He sided with the left on the Iraq war, praised Britain’s national health insurance, promised never to touch Social Security and Medicare, etc.
But instead of seeing an opportunity, the left treated Trump with unrelenting hostility, and many high-profile establishment Republicans declared they’d never vote for him. But some conservatives made it clear that they were willing to work with Trump, make staffing recommendations, offer policy help, and so on.
The more Trump listened to conservatives, the more he realized that their ideas made sense. And as a result, and unlike every other president in history, Trump became more conservative as time went on, and delivered more wins for conservatives than any president, even Reagan.
Today, even when Trump manages to do something that Democrats approve of, they can’t bring themselves to give credit where it’s due or stop calling him a fascist.
Which brings us to Mamdani, who is scheduled to meet with Trump today.
In advance of the meeting, Mamdani didn’t declare his intent to attack Trump. Or lecture him. Or call him names.
Instead, he said “I will work with anyone to make life more affordable for the more than eight and a half million people who call this city home.”
Anyone? Even Trump?!? They guy who called you a communist and said made various threats if New York elected you?
When have you heard a Democrat say anything like that in the past decade?
Mamdani went on to say that while he had “many disagreements” with Trump, he admitted that “cost of living is something that I heard time and time again from New Yorkers about why they voted for Donald Trump.”
We have no idea what will come of this meeting. And we hope and pray that Democrats never figure out how to manipulate Trump into doing their bidding, because their unremitting hostility, as much as anything, is helping to keep Trump on the right path.
But it would be ironic, indeed, if a far-left socialist radical mayor-elect of New York was the one to figure out how Trump works and how to “get” him by being respectful.

Addendum: After this editorial was published first thing Friday morning, Trump and Mamdani appeared together in the Oval Office in what Fox News called a “love fest,” with Trump saying: “I think you’re going to have, hopefully, a really great mayor and the better he does, the happier I am,” and “he’s got views that (are) a little out there, but who knows? And then we’ll get to see what works, or he’s going to change also. We all change. I changed a lot. Changed a lot from when I first came to office.”

Okay David, what planet are you residing on? If you are referring to the two blue state wins for democrats , it’s no big deal I assure you, but I guess after Trump winning the Presidency again and the popular vote as well as normally blue states with his obliterating Kamala Harris, poor democrats have to crow about something. Their government shutdown netted them nothing, but caused their own constituents so much pain, but that was the price of wanting control even though they never really had it.
I believe that the Democrats know that the more they unfairly malign President Trump the more the core “Trumpsters” will sympathize and rally around Trump. One of the main reasons they keep on doing this (calling him names like “threat to democracy” or “King Trump”) is because they care more about power than they care about the US-and, innately, the Congressional Democrats have a lot of power.
That’s why all the good Trump has done falls on Democratic deaf ears!
It is hard to believe that all Democrats who have been elected are so brain dead and insensitive that they actually believe all the abuse they throw at Trump.
So, why do they do it. To pet and not antagonize their liberal base (who, I believe, are either funded by NGOs or are infected with TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).
Mamdani, in my opinion, is as brutal and uncaring (see what will happen to NYC (New York City) once the Mam-boy is installed as Mayor; already-as I&I has pointed out-many corporations and other businesses are closing their businesses or moving out of the state) as all the Democrats, who are nothing but poseurs in power. However, he is also sly-so he recognizes and deals with Trump. For now.
Why would he do this? To legitimize his election.
I don’t know if Trump is taken in by Mamdani’s pal boy-suck up-bending the knee or not. But I’d bet on Trump. After all Mamdani never had a job outside government; he’s an idiot (unless he treasonally wants NYC to tumble) if he believes his socialist drivel and President Trump is the most famous-and arguably-successful businessman in the world.
Mamdani may have won the election, but I believe NYC will have lost NYC.
Poor wittle unfairly abused sweetheart Trump, the sweet innocent who…*checks notes* yesterday called for Democrats to be hung for reminding troops that they are required to obey the law.
The right is completely out of touch. That’s why Trump’s poll numbers are crashing. Please keep it up!
