I & I Editorial BoardAfter four years spent denying that inflation was a problem, Democrats are suddenly screaming at President Donald Trump for not having lowered the price of eggs already.
“Democratic lawmakers slam Trump for not making good on promise to ‘immediately’ lower food prices amid egg shortage,” shouts NBC News, pointing to a letter signed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and other leftist lawmakers who accuse Trump of backtracking on his promise to deal with Bidenflation.
This is all part of a coordinated – and rather pathetic – campaign by the left, which is saying things such as “Under Donald Trump’s leadership, egg prices in the United States have hit an all-time high,” “What is Trump going to do about the price of eggs?” and “Donald Trump lied, he did not bring down the price of eggs on day one.”
Social media “influencer” Harry Sisson posted on X that “Trump has been president for 3 days and egg prices are at all-time highs. TRUMP’S AMERICA!!!”
(Sisson is the same guy who last June posted that “Inflation is going down … and grocery prices are falling. Thank you, President Joe Biden!”)
What’s amusing – or depressing, depending on your perspective – is that all this handwringing is the result of a Consumer Price Index report released a week ago that found that egg prices are up almost 40% compared with last year.
There’s just one problem. That CPI report was about price increases in December 2024 – a month before Donald Trump took office. The more recent spate of egg shortages and price hikes is due to the avian flu.
Nevertheless, Warren and company complain that Trump’s “sole action on costs was an executive order that contained only the barest mention of food prices, and not a single specific policy to reduce them.”
Trump has, in fact, taken several steps through executive orders to wring inflation out of the economy, such as unleashing energy production, putting a halt on new regulations, and unleashing DOGE to cut spending and waste.
Of course, none of this counts as “action” to Warren and her fellow progressive lawmakers, for whom only Soviet-style price controls matter.
CBS News’ Margaret Brennan, meanwhile, clearly got the Democrats’ “egg” memo, pressing Vice President JD Vance this weekend with a question that revealed both her extreme bias and her economic illiteracy: “We’ve seen all these executive orders,” she said, “which one lowers prices?”
To which Vance recited actions Trump has taken, noting that “more capital investment, more job creation in our economy is one of the things that’s going to drive down prices for all consumers, but also raise wages so that people can afford to buy the things that they need.”
Then Vance helpfully reminded Brennan that “The president has been president for all of five days. I think that in those five days, he’s accomplished more than Joe Biden did in four years.”

I&I writes, regarding Elizabeth Warren’s diatribe against Trump for not reducing inflation yet: “Trump has, in fact, taken several steps through executive orders to wring inflation out of the economy, such as unleashing energy production, putting a halt on new regulations, and unleashing DOGE to cut spending and waste.”
The fact that she doesn’t see these events as Trump recognizing and reducing inflation just reveals her ignorance and inartfullness at the ways policy affects inflation.
It is an astounding loss for the Biden Administration that she wasn’t appointed Secretary of the Treasury. After all, she could have furthered the Biden Administration’s inflationary incompetence; thus, assuring him the black cloud legacy, as Ramirez portrays, that he so richly deserves.
Please tell me, are there any normal, rational, common sense based, moderate, thoughtful, fair, compassionate and committed to our Constitution Democrats?
