Turns Out We Were Right: Dems Were Playing The Long Con

Editor’s note: Google has labeled this article as containing “unreliable and harmful claims” and is blocking its ads from appearing on the page. (Below is the notice we received.) This is particularly galling because this editorial points out the unreliability of mainstream pundits. It is yet another example of a Big Tech monopolist trying to enforce its ideological agenda on the rest of us.

Back in February, we noticed a spate of articles claiming that there was no way that Joe Biden would not be the Democrats’ nominee.

“In the span of two days,” we wrote, “articles started appearing making the exact same argument: That Joe Biden will definitely, no questions asked, be the nominee come November.” (See: “Are Dems Actually ‘Stuck With Biden’? Or Are They Playing A Long Con?” Feb. 14, 2024.)

We noticed that these articles — all written by supposed political pros — made the same argument:

  • It’s too late for Biden to step aside.
  • Party elites are all behind Biden.
  • There’s no way Biden would ever drop out.
  • Nobody wants Kamala Harris to be the nominee.

Horsefeathers, we said, Democrats’ only interest is in defeating Donald Trump and keeping power, and they will do whatever it takes to achieve that.

We said:

Biden’s physical and mental state will only get worse, and his decline is by all evidence, accelerating. It’s an open question whether he’d agree to, or would be able to, debate Trump.

The chance that he will do something catastrophically stupid or embarrassing grows by the day, and the White House can’t keep him locked away until Nov. 6.

We pointed that these pundits were also claiming that all the talk of replacing Biden was coming from Republicans, which made no sense because “Republicans would love nothing more than for Biden to mumble and stumble his way to November, and then suffer a massive, humiliating defeat.”

Our conclusion was: “In short, given that the establishment left is now insisting that Biden will be the nominee makes it more likely that he won’t be.”

Five months later and we were, as Mona Lisa Vito put it in “My Cousin Vinny,” dead-on balls accurate.

Today, the news is all about how the “sudden” turn of events has given the Democratic Party renewed energy, closed the gap in the polls, super-energized the base, and thrown Trump completely off his game.

So, we got to wondering if any of those journalistic “experts” admitted their mistake or apologized to readers for being 100% wrong back in February.

Not on your life.

Vox.com’s Christian Paz — the site’s “senior politics reporter” — told the world in February that “Yes, Democrats, It’s Biden or Bust.” Did he apologize to readers when Biden dropped? Lose his station? Nope. He immediately switched to whitewashing Harris’ record on the border with an article about how “No, Kamala Harris is not a ‘border czar.’ But that doesn’t matter to Republicans.”

Politico’s senior political columnist and politics bureau chief wrote a lengthy piece in February telling readers with all certainty to “Get Used to It: Biden Isn’t Going Anywhere.” Did he issue a mea culpa? Hardly. His piece after Biden dropped out was about how “Unburdened by an incumbent who a vast majority of voters believed was too old for the job, the party burst with optimism and excitement.”

New York Magazine’s political-columnist-for-Intelligencer-since-2015 Ed Kilgore wrote in February that “Yes, Democrats Can Still Replace Biden (But They Won’t),” in which he insisted that the “DNC isn’t going to dump a renominated incumbent president, no matter how poorly he’s doing in the polls.” His latest piece is devoted to defending exactly what he said wouldn’t happen by claiming that “No, the Biden-Harris Switch Is Not a ‘Coup‘.”

The National Interest’s Harrison Kass said back then that “Democrats are Stuck with Joe Biden.” His latest article is spent defending Harris against claims that she’s a socialist, in which he makes no mention of the fact that her voting record was to the left of avowed socialist Bernie Sanders.

Notice the pattern here? These alleged journalists were all spewing Democratic talking points then, and they are doing so now. “Truth to power” has given way to “whatever it takes to help the Democratic Party.”

Today’s mainstream journalists are the domestic version of Baghdad Bob. The public must learn to start treating them that way.

  • “Today’s mainstream journalists are the domestic version of Baghdad Bob.”
Actually, they are the domestic version of Pravda, named by Lenin as part of his propaganda machine.

  • Being a media mouthpiece for Democrats means never having to say you’re sorry.

  • I really didn’t see that coming. Joe not making it? Yes. But Kamala?? Oh well proves Clint Eastwood was right…. the D’s will/would vote for an empty chair.

  • The Democrats care about nothing but attaining power. They have no scruples. This was proved to me in the election of 2020. I’ll go to my grave believing that Trump and those who voted for him were defrauded. For example, the statistical graphs (for instance, those which showed that in the dark of night that many of the votes were now Biden bound) and the video anecdotes which also gave irrefutable evidence.
In any event, there should be no statue of limitations for this cheating and defrauding: A Presidential election was stolen. And those who participated in the theft should never be forgiven. They are traitors and should hanged as traitors.
One wonders how these Democrats (who have children and grandchildren) can rationalize and justify their foolish behavior. First it just is wrong (stealing the election); Second, putting in a Democrat (esp. a progressive Democrat like Kamala, or a senile con-man like Biden-or even someone who wants to re-cycle his two term Presidency, viz Obama) will deliver to an already weak country a KO blow.
Right now the trajectory is down; another Democratic Administration will point the direction another 100 degrees down.
But then, this is actually explainable: While not all Democrats are foolish, a vast majority of fools are, I believe (especially nowadays) Democratic!
