There’s little we can add to make the case that David Frum — the left’s favorite “Republican” — is a detestable human being that he doesn’t provide himself in his 1,500-word screed written in the immediate wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
In it, he blames Trump for the bullet that came within millimeters of killing him and the others that killed and injured attendees at Saturday’s rally, while completely and totally ignoring the viciousness and violence perpetrated by the left — not just against Trump, but against all Republicans, including the guy he used to work for, George W. Bush.
So, to make our case that Frum is scum, we simply quote some of the most illuminating passages. We won’t bother linking to the article because we’d rather not send him any money-making clicks, but if you want to read the complete article, head over to The Atlantic.

“Now the bloodshed that Trump has done so much to incite against others has touched him as well.”
“Fascist movements are secular religions. Like all religions, they offer martyrs as their proof of truth. The Mussolini movement in Italy built imposing monuments to its fallen comrades. The Trump movement now improves on that: The leader himself will be the martyr in chief, his own blood the basis for his bid for power and vengeance.”
“The despicable shooting at Trump, which also caused death and injury to others, now secures his undeserved position as a partner in the protective rituals of the democracy he despises.”
“We abhor, reject, repudiate, and punish all political violence, even as we maintain that Trump remains himself a promoter of such violence, a subverter of American institutions, and the very opposite of everything decent and patriotic in American life.”
“All of these urgent and necessary truths must now be subdued to the ritual invocation of ‘thoughts and prayers’ for someone who never gave a thought or uttered a prayer for any of the victims of his own many incitements to bloodshed.”
“The president who used his office to champion the rights of dangerous people to own military-type weapons says he was grazed by a bullet from one such assault rifle.”
“He and his allies will exploit a gunman’s vicious criminality as their path to exonerate past crimes and empower new ones.”
“Those who stand against Trump and his allies must find the will and the language to explain why… the gunman and Trump, at their opposite ends of a bullet’s trajectory, are nonetheless joined together as common enemies of law and democracy.”
We’ll throw this one in just for good measure, because it reveals how ludicrously detached Frum is from reality.
“The American economy is booming, providing spectacular and widely shared prosperity. A brief spasm of mild post-pandemic inflation has been overcome. Indicators of social health have abruptly turned positive since Trump left office after years of deterioration during his term. … Even the country’s problems indirectly confirm the country’s success: Migrants are crossing the border in the hundreds of thousands, because they know, even if Americans don’t, that the U.S. job market is among the hottest on Earth.”

One of my favorite authors, Jerry Pournelle, was active in politics and always referred to this man as “the egregious Frum”. I never bothered to investigate exactly why he did that. Pournelle died in 2017, but now I understand why he chose that word to describe him.
I just checked the Wikipedia article on Jerry Pournelle and the phrase “the egregious Frum” actually appears in it. It’s very amusing that Jerry is still zinging Frum from beyond the grave.
One of the characteristics of progressive communist democrats and their RINO cohorts is that they blame the victim while excusing the criminal’s behavior. Frum appears to have turned his back on his nation to make a buck from his newfound liberal friends. His hatred of Donald Trump knows no bounds and one can only consider what he must think of America.
I finally understand cognitive dissonance. Thank you.
You have insulted scum.
That made me laugh!!
Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out.
Frum is a progressive, apparently.
“Frum appears to have turned his back on his nation to make a buck from his newfound liberal friends.”
He may be a naturalized US citizen, but the execrable Frum is a Canadian by birth. His late mother Barbara was a widely-beloved commenter on the CBC, and quite open-minded as I recall. I think this apple rolled pretty far from the tree, and proceeded to rot!
His mother, the nearly blessed, Barbra Frum, would revile his words in the Atlantic. A true Canadian icon and broadcaster who saw the middle ground as not only a worthwhile path but a decent one.
I am stunned at the sheer madness that this man demonstrated. How does he live with himself? Better question, why does the Atlantic waste ink and paper, or internet bandwidth, on his wretched mewlings?
