The Incredible Shrinking Elizabeth Warren

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who once was a formidable force in Washington, D.C., and hoped one day to be president of the United States, is now so desperate to grab a sliver of the spotlight she’s taking on Big Snack Food and Big Toilet Paper. She managed only to reveal how irrelevant and economically ignorant she really is.

In a campaign email, a tweet, and a video, Warren complains that consumers are getting ripped off.

“Have you ever finished a bag of Doritos and thought, ‘Whoa — there should have been a lot more chips in here’? You were right,” she exclaims.

“It’s called ‘shrinkflation’,” she goes on. “Corporate executives thought we wouldn’t notice, but they were wrong. We caught on. And we’re not buying their excuse that it’s all about inflation.”

She says “It’s time to crack down on shrinkflation and corporate greed.”

Warren can’t possibly be this obtuse, can she?

Think about it for two seconds. Inflation is running rampant, giving manufacturers a choice: raise prices, or keep the price the same and cut back on the quantity.

Either way, consumers are paying more per unit, which is easy enough for them to tell because pretty much every grocery store in the country lists per-unit costs along with the sticker price.

Some consumers – like those on a tight budget – might actually appreciate the fact that companies are holding the price steady while cutting back on the number of items in the bag.

What about the claim that companies are employing this clever trickery to fatten profits? Well, if it’s actually that easy to boost the bottom line using “shrinkflation,” why wouldn’t companies do this all the time? Why wait until now?

And how, exactly, will Warren “crack down” on this nefarious practice? By mandating that each bag of Doritos and every roll of toilet paper contain a government-mandated number of chips and sheets?

There’s also the cognitive dissonance in Warren’s complaint. After all, she thinks climate change is our “existential crisis” that, to listen to her and other climate zealots, can only be solved if we all consume less. She should be cheering on shrinkflation!

To be fair, Warren has some stiff competition when it comes to the biggest economic ignoramus in Washington.

President Joe “When did I become vice president?” Biden recently attacked Big Grocery for “ripping people off.”

“Inflation is coming down. It’s now lower in America than any other major economy in the world,” Biden said. “The cost of eggs, milk, chicken, gas, and so many other essential items have come down.”

“But for all we’ve done to bring prices down, there are still too many corporations in America ripping people off: price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation,” Biden said.

“Well, it’s going to stop. Americans, we’re tired of being played for suckers. And that’s why we’re going to keep these guys — keep on them and get the prices down,” he said.

Is anybody buying these pathetic attempts at blame-shifting? Thankfully, no, which is why the public overwhelmingly disapproves of how Biden has handled the economy.

Americans know that Biden and his fellow big-spending Democrats such as Elizabeth Warren -– not Frito-Lay or Kimberly-Clark – are to blame for the strain on their family budgets.

  • She may be this stupid. However, in this case she is pandering to “useful idiots” who dont understand her and the rest of her COMMUNIST ilk are actually responsible for this rampant inflation.

    • Hmm, Trump increased the debt by a larger margin than any of the last 5 Democrat presidents.

  • Since my father was made a “blood brother” of the Blackfoot tribe in 1930 out on the res, I have always felt a certain close kinship to Elizabeth Warren!

Otherwise, her arrogant, tiny fist pumping in the air, sophomoric, pedantic, I am Holy and you are Not attitudes remind me of the editors of my college newspaper in the late 1960’s.
Brandishing their high school diplomas, without even a BA degree yet, they knew what was right and no one else did, like our main media and network editors of today.

I bet my college editors “grew up” and became what they always were, like Elizabeth Warren, insufferable fools, but always entertaining!

  • If old liz really cared about her fellow Americans, her message would be ‘Don’t eat Doritos. They are junk and not good for your health.’

  • One should feel better reading this. There was a time, not too long ago, when she was taken seriously. For a minute or two.

  • I am not a fan of Elizabeth Warren and I never have been. With that being said, the person who wrote this article is not the grocery shopper in their home nor mindful of what is going on in the world of food commerce.
Since January, the downsizing of products, the upswing of cost and the mind- numbing acceleration of corporate greed is apparent to those of us who do the grocery shopping. And, nothing is being done to correct these wrongful practices against the American public!
I can only assume food providers know there isgoing to be a positive change and they are going to get their profits while they can.

  • Let see. All food stuffs include their weight expressed numerically, right on the front of the product. Did she not look until she ran out of Doritos? The Accountable Capitalist Act was a brain child of hers. Completely biased trash. Her support of the IRA act? She bragged that it was not inflationary. Opps. Now like Joe, she’s upset prices have not come down. Psst its inflation>>> your tax on the working class of America. We don’t have deflation watrren, we still have inflation. Maybe the wise financial (hack) can tell us when prices will go back to where they were before joe moved into the WH?

warren is a horrible person. The cfpb was her brain child.

  • What shall call exorbitant government taxation and astronomical federal overspending?
    Bloatflation?

  • Quite disingenuous given corporations have been attempting to fool consumers for many decades with their shrinkflation and for you to then lie about it!

Then adding to your dishonesty, “There’s also the cognitive dissonance in Warren’s complaint. After all, she thinks climate change is our “existential crisis” that, to listen to her and other climate zealots, can only be solved if we all consume less.”

What nonsense, there’s choosing to consume less and corporations ripping you off!

  • The gall of this troll of a women: She objects to the “shrink-inflation” which inflation was brought on under Biden’s Administration-and now she wants to do something about it. What a cutey!
She’s like the doctor trying to cure the cold-but ignoring the underlying cancer of his patient.
Personally, I think her headdress is too small for her ever swelling head.

  • I’m not a fan of hers but a recent study / survey says 56% of retail companies raised prices solely to make more profit and pretended it was inflation or supply chain related.
At my job we cranked up a lot of prices despite our vendors not increasing theirs.
