Dear Santa: Why Is Christmas So $@#*% Expensive This Year?

Jill Biden’s creepy video, featuring a troupe of tap dancers showing off the garish Christmas decorations in the White House, prompted one journalist to comment that they are “really going for the Hunger Games as this year’s Christmas theme.”

While they’re prancing around in the capital, out in the districts everyone else is struggling to pay the sky-high cost of this festive season.

Are you traveling to be with friends and family? Airfares are 18% higher than they were Christmas 2020. And if you try to cut costs by driving, gasoline prices are 45% higher.

Buying food for your guests will cost 20% more than the last Christmas before Bidenflation took hold.

PNC Bank’s annual “Christmas Price Index,” a gimmicky index that measures the cost to buy all the gifts mentioned in “Twelve Days of Christmas,” has gone up more than 13% in the past two years.

Haven’t bought a Christmas tree yet? It will cost you about 10% more than last year, which is on top of the 10% increase the year before, and 10% the year before that.

Those Christmas lights decorating the house? Your electric bill will be 24% higher. If you’re sending Christmas cards, stationery costs are up 27% under Biden.

At least drowning your sorrows in alcohol is getting less expensive.

Of course, this doesn’t count the fact that Americans have to squeeze this spending out of a 4% decline in real average weekly earnings since Christmas 2020. Or, to put it another way, Bidenflation costs the typical family $11,400 a year.

Which is why more than one in three Americans say they are skipping Christmas presents due to inflation concerns.

Is it any wonder, then, that as the Bidens frolic – while lecturing Americans that all is well – food prices, our ability to pay our bills, housing affordability, gasoline prices and overall inflation, are the top five economic issues in the latest TIPP poll?

Most families this year will probably feel less like costumed tap dancers and more like poor Mrs. Cratchit from “A Christmas Carol.”

Imagine the scene. Bob Cratchit raises his glass after the family’s Christmas dinner to toast President Joe Biden, and says, mimicking White House talking points:

“To Mr. Biden! The Founder of the Feast!”

To which Mrs. Cratchit replies: “The Founder of the Feast indeed! I wish I had him here. I’d give him a piece of my mind to feast upon, and I hope he’d have a good appetite for it.”

  • More dishonesy from I&I. Comparing prices to those of the economic crash and deflation of the pandemic in 2020. And blaming Biden for inflation since then, when, in fact, inflation is global, and it’s is lower in the US than in most of the world.
I think you know better, but it’s an opportunity to decieve people with anti-Biden propaganda.
For those who still think Biden cut oil production, US oil production is at a record high, after crashing under Trump and the pandemic.

From The Atlantic, Dec 20, 2023:
This year, the United States pumped out more oil than any other country in history, producing millions more barrels than Russia or Saudi Arabia ever have and accounting for almost a fifth of the world’s total oil production.

    • What you are saying is the truth, but it is also misleading. We are producing more oil, but no where near as much as we would have been producing if we had followed the policies of the previous administration. Our production is not keeping up with demand. It’s kind of like buying clothes for a growing kid. What you buy this year may be bigger than last year, but if it’s two sizes too small, it’s not going to get the job done. Under Biden, we’re drilling less than we would have, we’re leasing much less land for future drilling and a huge part of our production is coming from our dwindling strategic reserves. The future is not looking bright.

    • Jeebus!!
Bidet can’t do anything about current oil production unless he goes full dictator. and nationalizes the industry. He is cutting future production through limitting and denying leases and permits and federalizing land. The US is the world’s largest and leading economy, so of course things are better here. But WE set the course and as we go so goes most of the rest of the world. Telling people be glad inflation is lower here is like telling the residents of South Chicago they are lucky not to be in Gaza

      • From E&E News:
A data analysis by E&E News also shows that the Bureau of Land Management has approved more oil and gas leases on federal lands during Biden’s first two years and seven months as president than former President Trump did during the same amount of time at the beginning of his administration.

      • So you still believe ALL the lies? There were over 60 court cases just after the election, and no fraud was presented. And it wasn’t because the judges, many of which were Trump appointees, didn’t allow evidence, which is one more Trumpist lie. Trump’s lawyers even said they were not claiming fraud.
Later, there were a few, mostly Trumpists, found to have voted fraudulently, but not enough to make a difference.
And now we have one more case, where Giuliani lied about 2 poll workers.

      • Too bad Glen won’t admit of those cases were dismissed for lack of standing which is a catchall for judges that don’t want to hear a case. The merits never saw a court room. He’s an apparatchick, nothing more

      • The Inflation Act was $1.7 trillion spread out over 10 years. In the spring and summer of 2020, the Trump administration pumped $3 trillion of printed money in to the system in 180 days.

I know we live in a world of sensationalist hyperbole but that was literally the most massive, most concentrated exercise of government spending in history- all because during a national crisis, instead of a president, we had a Twitter troll who couldn’t tell the difference between a pandemic and a media hoax.

You put him back in power, 2020 will look like a picnic. This time it won’t take 3 years for the wheels to come completely off and for people all across the political spectrum to be rioting in the streets.

    • There really wasn’t a “depression” with prices during COVID. Prices stayed about the same and coming out of COVID lock-downs, UK only had about 3 to 4% inflation, which is what we should’ve had (their inflation has since gone up). BUT Democrats and Biden got in power and did another COVID relief package that was unnecessary AND they continued the COVID extra $500+ per unemployment check for most of 2021 so that MANY were making the same or MORE when they didn’t work. Many jobs remained unfilled and so the economy stalled. And then MORE Democrat spending in the infrastructure bill (that only had about 25% infrastructure in it!!! – should Biden and Congress be indicted for lying to the American people?) and the “end inflation” bill. HA! Democrats and Biden are at fault and Republicans need to HAMMER THIS HOME throughout next year.

    • I retired from the oil industry. Biden’s environmental regs have added significant costs to a barrel of oil. His canceling of the Keystone pipeline kept transportation costs higher because his fellow Democrat, Warren
Buffet, gets to keep transporting Bakken oil by more expensive rail cars which are more dangerous than pipelines. Quit writing about things of which you know little. Biden’s deficit spending increased inflation tremendously. Milton Friedman famously said: “Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output.” Of course, we all know the driver of the quantity of money is government spending priorities, and recently the government has been spending a lot.
      Learn something.

  • All of this damage was intentional too. Biden’s handlers want us poor, freezing and in the dark.

  • Because you all sat on your hands and let the Democraps steal the last Presidential Election, didn’t you Cousins?
    Don’t let it happen again!

  • I guess Biden can be called the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Why did he steal it? Because, under Bidenomics, it is now too expensive to purchase-or even to live on- what was purchased under Trump left less of a hole in your wallet.
Those who voted for Biden (and who hated Trump more than they loved their children and grandchildren) I have no sympathy for. They should suffer for their lack of critical thinking. It’s a shame their descendants also have to suffer.
In my view, they had a choice that was as clear as 2+2. But because of Trump Derangement Syndrome, they decide to spin the wheel.
Those who voted for Trump and now pay budget-busting rates for everything, you have my upmost sympathies.
This is the Christmas Season-and you shouldn’t have to suffer for your neighbors foolhardy vote-and despite Bidenomics.

    • There is no reason to believe that the economy would be any better under Trump, but plenty of reason to believe that our democracy would be in worse shape under Trump.

      • Oh, bless your heart. Trump didn’t censor his political opponents by coercing social media to ban their posts. Trump didn’t weaponize all the alphabet agencies to threaten his supporters. Trump didn’t throw open the soiuthern border to n invasion of illegal aliens. Biden did all those things. Plus, he’s been selling influence for years. He’s more fascist than anyone in govt before him, including g FDR & the new deal.
