If COVID-19 Was Made In China, Why Do Biden And Democrats Refuse To Do Something About It?

China’s recent behavior has made it clear: It sees the U.S. not as a friend or as a mere competitor, but as an enemy. Recent revelations about China’s likely involvement in creating, spreading, then covering up the novel coronavirus, underscore the threat. After more than 600,000 deaths from the Wuhan bug, it’s time the U.S. responded.

A high-level Chinese defector is reportedly spilling the beans on China’s involvement in COVID-19 to the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. Not only did Beijing probably create the pandemic, but it looks increasingly likely that it released the virus on purpose. The “infected-bat-meat-in-the-wet-market” thesis doesn’t hold up.

Despite the U.S. media’s year-long attempt to pooh-pooh the notion that COVID-19 came from China’s government, a report by RedState citing “sources inside the intelligence community” says the Chinese defector “provided data proving that SARS-CoV-2 was manmade and leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, in addition to evidence confirming that the People’s Liberation Army managed the Wuhan program (and others), as Chinese virologist Yan Li-Meng told the FBI last year.”

RedState reports that the defector is “Dong (Jingwei) … (and) that he was in charge of counterintelligence efforts in China, and that he flew to the United States in mid-February, allegedly to visit his daughter at a university in California.”

It’s important to note this isn’t the only such report. SpyTalk, an intelligence site, asserts the defector’s information may be why the Biden administration suddenly shifted its own narrative on possible Chinese involvement. It didn’t want to look foolish when Democrats’ repeated claims that the lab virus theory was false proved wrong.

Further thickening the plot, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, oversaw U.S. funding of “gain of function” research at the Wuhan lab, and then lied about it to Congress. If so, he and those scientists who ridiculed the notion of Chinese government involvement in the virus’ creation out of hatred for Donald Trump, not because of the science, will have some explaining to do.

The U.S. not only lost hundreds of thousands of lives from COVID-19, but the viral scourge also cost the U.S. untold trillions of dollars in economic output and divided Americans sharply over responses to the deadly bug.

Yet, China has stonewalled any kind of international investigation into COVID-19, even once suggesting with no evidence that the U.S. military created the virus.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has shown its weakness by refusing to push hard for an inquiry.

“We are not, at this point, going to issue threats or ultimatums,” Biden National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CNN. “If it turns out that China refuses to live up to its international obligations, we will have to consider our responses at that point and we will do so in concert with allies and partners.”

In short, this administration will do nothing.

If the allegations prove true, China’s communist regime will have shown its true colors. An act that results in mass killings is an act of war, no matter how you paint it otherwise.

We’re not suggesting going on war footing or moving to DefCon 3. But failure to respond will lead China to once again conclude that the U.S. is, as Mao Zedong used to call us, “a paper tiger” — all growl, no bite.

That at least seems to be what China’s current communist leader and Mao admirer, Xi Jinping, thinks. How else would you characterize such brazen and reckless behavior, endangering the health and stability not just of the U.S. but of the whole world?

Not only are they not ashamed, China’s leaders seem triumphant. The country’s Foreign Ministry even suggests a Nobel Prize for the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which may have committed mass murder on a global scale. A Chutzpah Prize might be better.

Worse still, Biden and his shaky allies in the G7 seem utterly clueless how to respond other than with tough-sounding words.

We’re glad to see Senate Republicans, at least, stepping up to the plate on China’s cover-up. They’ve put forward an eight-point plan, which has little chance of passage in the bitterly divided and partisan chamber. But at least it draws a line and provides a template for future actions.

Among other things, the plan would declassify information about COVID-19’s origin from U.S. intelligence agencies, stop the National Institutes of Health from funding research in hostile regimes such as China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, and investigate the World Health Organization’s pro-Chinese actions during the past year’s virus outbreak.

In addition, the plan would impose visa restrictions on Chinese and WHO officials, let those with family who died from COVID-19 sue China’s government for damages and, as a final punishment, strip the 2022 Winter Olympics from China.

Of course, China’s misbehavior extends well beyond COVID-19. We’ll have more to say on that soon.

For now, it’s enough to say that, whether because of his “business” conflicts over China, or the possibility that Beijing’s intelligence services have a blackmail copy of the hard drive of son Hunter Biden’s lost computer, President Joe Biden seems unwilling to do much, if anything, about China. The same is true of the entire Democratic Party.
