Happy July 4: Tyranny Of The Woke Mob Might Be Worse Than Suffering Under British Rule

I&I Editorial

When we celebrate Independence Day, we rejoice over the freedom won from the English crown. But there’s a new master gaining power in America. We need to shrug it off before it takes over.

Because we’re marking the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress, it would be instructive to see where we are today by comparing a few passages from our founding document with current events.

1776: King George III has “sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”

2020: The cancel culture has cost people jobs, income, and social status.

1776: The king “has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.”

2020: Rioters, looters, statue-topplers, and the criminals holed up in “autonomous zones” have killed and injured, stolen, burned, and destroyed.

1776: The crown imposed “taxes on us without our consent.”

2020: Black Lives Matter is at its core a marxist organization, while its “partner organization,” the Movement for Black Lives, “calls for a ‘progressive restructuring of tax codes at the local, state and federal levels to ensure a radical and sustainable redistribution of wealth.’”

1776: The king abolished “our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments.”

2020: Defund the police.

1776: Our Creator endowed us “with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

2020: Conform or else.

1776: The colonists complained the king quartered “large bodies of armed troops among us.”

2020: Squatters unlawfully take over private and public property in Seattle.

1776: George transported “large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny.”

2020: “I think about a third of the people are from out of town here to make the city burn.” – Justin Terrell, executive director of the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage.

1776: The king “excited domestic insurrections amongst us.”

2020: Suspects in several states have been arrested for inciting riots after the death of George Floyd.

The compare-and-contrast go on for a while, but today is the beginning of a holiday weekend and readers likely have other things to do. Our hope is that we at least provoked some further thought.

  • Well you managed to get that completely wrong. Mobs of protesters, peaceful and otherwise, are what achieved our freedom from tyrannical government edicts and misrule, such as Trump is now presiding over.

    • So, in your World, Trump is as bad as the British rulers and needs to be taken down? How absurd. TDS has taken over your critical thinking skills.

      • Robert is correct. Trump is an evil cult leader and you are a victim. Of course you don’t understand and will never admit it. They never do.

      • Flagg & alkss are wrong and clearly suffer from TDS and/or are victims of leftist brainwashing. Probably paid big bucks to a college for the brainwashing. No doubt worshipers in the leftist Obama cult. Obama is an admitted Marxist, so is Hellary, Sanders a lover of communism and the entire Dem Party is controlled by Leftist ideology, pure evil.
Leftism, in all its many forms, is about tyranny, the antithesis of America.
The violence & destruction by the Left’s terrorist organizations (BLM & Anti-fa) is not about Floyd. It is about Trump but only because they would hate any non-Leftist in office. It is about Power to control everyone and everything, tyranny. The Dem/Left will destroy anyone who gets in their way of having Power. Even if that means destroying America. They are using fear to get people to surrender their freedom. Which is what will happen if Dems win the next election. It’s lose-lose with the Left.
If you want to fundamentally transform America – as Democrats do – then you do NOT love America. You love tyranny or are too clueless to understand you are being used for tyranny. The Left does NOT care about people, they only use them, as they are doing with blacks now to cause chaos & mayhem to create fear.
Leftism is America’s greatest threat. The evil within, a deadly cancer eating away at all that is good in America for Power. Our Constitution was written to LIMIT government power, which is why the left hates it and have long worked to undermine it, at great cost to our freedom, prosperity, and independence.
God bless America, we need it.

  • This has got to be one of the all time dumbest articles I’ve ever seen.
Is everyone on this editorial board trying to insinuate that the United States is no better off today than had we been under British Rule for the past 250 years ?
    How ridiculous !

  • Many Founders became very rich men after kicking out the British, and as with most me who see gain, a grand taking of land from the British Crown and the North American Natives was the pot of gold at the end of the Revolutionary rainbow. So yeah sure the Brits “plundered our seas” and mussed our hair. In fact the most significant thing the British did (and the reason for the quartering of men and taxation) send troops all the way from Europe at great expense to fight the French and their very savage Native allies in the French & Indian War. Thus the British, for protecting the Colonials from rape & murder, were betrayed by the terrorists known as the Sons of Liberty. For reference see “A Struggle for Power” by Theodore Draper. Yes this comment has no refutation of the nonsense of this article, because it is piffle of the quality submitted by lazy HS students.

    • Since you hate America so much, I hope you do not live here. You ignorance & hate will be a detriment no matter where you are.
BTW, most of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence (and thank God those brave men did!) were signing their death warrant. No doubt you wish they had all been hung since you are clearly anti-freedom and on the side of tyrannical monarchy. And in fact, some did die and lost their wealth and families. I doubt you would risk everything for something greater than yourself since you prefer tyranny ruling over you – that’s Dem/Leftism.
You have been well trained by your Leftist masters to be envious of anyone who has done better than you have or will ever do.

  • Most of what happens in history can’t be erased or it’s future effects modified, so we just have to live with it

  • The article does provoke additional thought.
Right now I’m thinking the woke mob tyranny such as we are seeing today is much worse than the British tyranny the American colonists suffered then. Then there was a semblance of law and order that sometimes was fair, other times not. CHAZ-CHOP is an interesting example of what one could expect under the authority of the BLM organization and/or the ANTIFA people. The peaceful protesters are the ones to listen to; many are searching for solutions, many of them will listen. These others, no; they won’t listen to any other view different than their own. They glory in destruction of what is good with this country. The baby shouldn’t be thrown with with the dirty bath water.
