Poll: Democrats Want Their Party To Be Even More Radical

In February, a bunch of centrist Democratic officials gathered in ritzy Potomac, Maryland, to complain that the party had become too radicalized and needed to “get out of elite circles and into real communities (e.g., tailgates, gun shows, local restaurants, churches).”

The response of rank-and-file Democrats? “Go left, young gender-fluid person!!”

This week, RealClearPolitics reported on a poll from Survey USA that found 74% of Democrats either want the party to be even more “progressive” (50%) or like it just the way it is (24%). Fewer than one in five wants the party to move toward the center.

Yes, some are trying to keep sanity alive.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom – who desperately wants to be president – has been pretending to be a moderate by inviting conservatives onto his podcast and saying things such as “the Democratic brand is toxic.”

Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is warning Democrats that they “can’t be a party that believes in equity and allows two-thirds of your kids who can’t read.” He’s also said that Democrats have “sunk” their own party.

Democratic New Mexico District Attorney Sam Bregman is running for governor against the “radical Left.”

But this isn’t the 1990s, and there is no interest or appetite among Democrats in reviving Bill Clinton’s “New Democrat” corpse.

The party is now irretrievably in the grip of those toxic, party-sinking radical leftists. In the Survey USA poll, there wasn’t a single demographic group where even a plurality felt the party should be more moderate.

More than half of young, urban, college-educated, well-paid whites – the very people who make up the “elite circles” and will never venture into “real communities” – want the party to move further to the left.

Meanwhile, avowed socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are drawing big crowds and generating loads of fawning press for their “fight the oligarchy” tour.

Democrats want AOC to challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in 2028 after Schumer committed the cardinal sin of bipartisanship on the budget. One recent poll has her ahead of Schumer by double digits, and she’s raising record amounts of campaign cash.

Earlier this year, the Democratic National Committee, in what was described as a “bizarre and inadvertently comical” meeting – during which the DNC announced that elected party officers had to be “gender balanced” – named pencil-necked uber-leftist beta male David Hogg as a vice chair. He promptly said he’d spend $20 million to challenge Democratic incumbents who aren’t sufficiently woke.

“While Trump creates new existential crises every day,” Hogg said, “too many elected leaders in the Democratic Party are either unwilling or unable to meet the moment.”

So, where does that leave “moderate” Democrats? They are shouting into a hurricane.

Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn, for example, said that if AOC challenges Schumer in 2028, it could “finish this party off. This could put it into the wilderness the way the (British) Labour Party was for a decade.”

“Democratic ratings,” he said, “are down to 29%. I’ve never seen anything like it. That means the left base is with the Democratic Party, and the moderates are all leaving the party.”

Yep.

Maybe Bernie, AOC, and Hogg can put their heads together and come up with a smart new name for the Democratic Party that more closely resembles what it’s turned into. Something like, say, The People’s Revolutionary Party?

  • Sorry but Bendover Bernie and AOC are not socialists.  They are marxists.  Sent from my iPhone

    • Americans are realizing it more and more too. This is why the Democrats are doomed party, at least short term. There are a couple of stories on top at Whatfinger News on their imminent death, right by the link to this article, which is how I came over…. Great writing you guys have. My compliments

  • The party’s leaders: one is too old and the other is not exactly smart.

  • The Democrats have turned into a party of, as Lenin is suppose to have written, “Useful Idiots.”
They’ve always-since I’ve lived-been for more Big Government, but they weren’t wackos. They were different-yes-and, in my opinion, foolish, but they supported America.
Things changed though, during the Obama Administration. He appointed a lot of bureaucrats and judges-all of whom were left leaning social warriors, community organizers and likely socialistic and totalitarianistic .
He quietly infiltrated the Government with these totalitarian terrorists-who, due to our terrible educational system-believed since the “ends justifies the means”, revolutionary violence is justified.
It’s a shame Obama is African-American. My antipathy towards him-and what I believe he has done to America-will no doubt be attributed to “racism”. However, if Thomas Sowell had ever run, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat.
It is a shame that Democratic Americans vote Democratic and lean Communistic.-but it is understandable for-as I mentioned-they are “useful idiots.”

  • The world has seen the Marxist experiment blow torch societies yet the arrogance and condescension of the American left has convinced Democrats that THEY can change the nature of humanity. Marxism has imploded and it will continue to implode because freedom has a built-in natural explosive trigger and when that happens? walls fall. We’ve seen that movie and how it ends.

  • AOL’s future is as a model of red lipstick; no education or intelligence need.

Former Governor Keane of NJ would say about this pairing of Bernie and AOC, “Phurfect togethea!”

  • I predict midterms are going to be a absolute pulping of the Ds. One for the ages and final proof Trumpism has assumed total control.
