I & I Editorial BoardWe don’t know who leaked the draft of the high court’s Roe v. Wade decision, but whoever it was, he or she was almost certainly a leftist Democrat. How do we know this? They, more than any other group, have a bred-in-the-bone hatred for America’s constitutional order that borders on the pathological.
Most Americans don’t know this. Indeed, they believe that, whatever policy differences we have, we’re all one in loving America’s Constitution and the rights and freedoms it protects. Yet, whenever the left is upset at a Supreme Court decision, it instantly calls for radical changes so it can win in the future.
It’s the equivalent of saying, hey, if you can’t win the game within the rules, just change the rules, as Victor Davis Hanson recently observed.
That’s just what the left wants to do, demanding that we “enlarge” the Supreme Court by packing it with lefty progressives in response to the possible overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion decision.
But this hostile attitude toward the Constitution and the Supreme Court is nothing new. Indeed, it’s as old as the progressive movement itself, which dates back to the post-Civil War era. More recently, it was nicely summed up by a headline at the leftist website Vox: “The case against the Supreme Court of the United States.”
Where does this come from? The left wants so much more big government that they don’t want the Constitution to stand in their way. They would rather be able to dictate from Washington, under permanent control of deep-state denizens and progressive elites, how Americans everywhere live their lives.
“The Constitution prevented the early 20th century ‘progressive’ geniuses from doing what they wanted to and believed they should do,” wrote attorney, constitutional scholar, and political blogger Harvey Cody. “‘Progressives’ had a problem, however. The vast majority of the voting public loved the Constitution. It had propelled America from an insignificant group of colonies to an economic powerhouse and a major world power in an amazingly short period of time. The only way ‘progressives’ could gain the power they so savored was to undermine the legitimacy of the Constitution.”
It’s been that way ever since.
From Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, down to Barack Obama and current President Joe Biden, leftist politicians have been at war with the Constitution.
This is on full display now in the White House, with Biden even refusing to criticize the clearly illegal breaching of the Supreme Court’s internal workings. It’s on display, too, in Congress, with the Democrats’ threats and extremist rhetoric endangering both the Supreme Court — the institution dedicated to preserving and protecting the Constitution — and the justices who do the people’s work there.
So, no, leftists aren’t uniquely angry over Roe v. Wade. Far from it. This is just another in a century and a half of angry assaults on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and our nation’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence. The left won’t be happy until all impediments to the “rule of the enlightened” are swept away, and those contemptible constitutionalists no longer have the right even to object.

The Constitution is just the most obvious example. The ‘Progressives’ hate anything that keeps us from returning to the technology and population levels of the Stone Age. An odd definition of Progress, of course, but they lie about everything so it fits.
The Left believed that the Constitution’s constraints on the federal government had been effectively nullified by their “living document” nonsense. The Supreme Court, from Earl Warren’s tenure to the present day, has done a great deal to reinforce that conviction. This incident of apparent resurgence of Constitutional originalism / textualism is an arrow through their aspirations. We can only hope that that arrow is barbed.
Abortion tears our social fabric more than any other issue and the rends are magnified when Americans misunderstand the meaning of judicial review. Unlike the executive and legislative branches of our republic, those who judge are specifically enjoined from acting in a political manner; they are charged with reviewing contentious laws according to constitutional standards.
In Roe v. Wade, the majority in favor of abortion decided by fiat that human life begins when the fetus is viable, but that is not the definition that pro-lifers believe. Every one of us was once a single cell human and our full development within the womb was an uninterrupted continuum. All other liberties that follow from the due process clause, those that protect fundamental aspects of privacy and autonomy, are different because abortion ends a life and all other decisions relating to autonomy and privacy do not.Thus, the fundamental question is whether intentional abortion of a healthy intrauterine life is a matter of parental convenience or an illegal termination of life. The issues of rape, incest, consequential intrauterine deformities and maternal health should be a separate matter.
Seems to me the constitution is outdated. Over time it has permitted the federal government to become an oppressive presence on the North American continent. Revoke the constitution and the fifty states can go their separate ways.
Believe them when they scream, “Burn it down!”

Libheral activities also promotes race wars and civil war against liberals vs conservatives. Liberals ignore and bypass legal precedent, legal processes, and laws in general when those laws and processes don’t jibe with their agenda. We need to promote conservative ideas, but not to the point where conservatives take over any more than liberals should be allowed to take over.
So how many of these pro-murders ever thanked their mother for being pro-life? Make every woman who has an abortion where the child survives kill it herself. Wonder how that would work out?
