A small, but important victory on the budget: Senate Republicans decided to keep their decade-long ban on earmarks, the pork barrel projects that members often drag home with little scrutiny.
The ban was in jeopardy after Senate Democrats had decided to follow House Democrats in restoring earmarks, in part as a way to entice some Republicans to go along with the Biden Budget Buster bills.
GOP Senators were expected to follow that lead, but then groups ranging from Freedom Works to the Heritage Foundation to CTUP weighed in with a message of: No more Alaska Bridges to Nowhere. Congrats to Senators Ron Johnson, Rand Paul, Mike Braun, and Ben Sasse for holding firm.

Chart Of The Day: National Debt Now Exceeds National Output
In case anyone in Washington cares (and we doubt it), CBO has just declared that the U.S. publicly held debt has officially surpassed 100% of GDP. The only other time that has happened was at the end of World War II when we borrowed massively to win the war. This debt number doesn’t even include any of the $6 trillion MORE spending Biden wants this year. Yes, we know interest rates are low, so the carrying cost of the debt is manageable – for now. But is there ANY sane person who really thinks this debt spending spree is a sane development for a nation?
Our first step remedy: an across-the-board cut every government agency budget by 10% NOW.
