Left’s Hypocrisy On Full Display After D.C. ‘Insurrection’

I&I Editorial

The angry election fraud protest that led to the temporary takeover of the U.S. Capitol Wednesday perfectly illuminates the hypocrisy of the Democratic far left when it comes to political violence.

Republican officials and rank-and-file GOP conservatives immediately and forcefully condemned the pro-Trump rioters. Nothing unusual about that: During this riot-torn year, Republicans have consistently, loudly and frequently denounced violence, no matter who did it.

What about the Democrats and their extreme-left supporters? Tragically, for them, violence is always acceptable when it’s in service to their cause. That’s especially true since the riots and mass protests began in late May following the death of George Floyd.

But, as usual, congressional Democrats, the legacy press and social media giants have misreported, distorted and twisted facts to suit their own leftist agenda and inflame public opinion.

Republicans, however, have taken a mature and responsible path.

Oklahoma Republican Rep. Markwayne Mullin, appearing on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday, didn’t excuse the behavior. Far from it.

“There is no excuse and no one is to blame but ourselves,” he told host George Stephanopoulos. “We need to take a hard look at our country, we need to take a hard look at the way we debate. We can agree to disagree but that doesn’t mean I don’t love you. That doesn’t mean I don’t care for you. That doesn’t mean I don’t love this country any more or less than you but what we did yesterday was absolutely inexcusable.”

The response from former Bill Clinton aide turned “journalist” Stephanopoulos lacked both grace and any kind of self-recognition of what the violently anti-Trump media and Democrats have wrought:

“We didn’t do it. The mobsters did it. The rioters did it. The president encouraged it. But thank you for your time, congressman.”

In comments made not long after, Joe Biden actually referred to President Donald Trump’s supporters as “domestic terrorists,” setting up the very real possibility of political tribunals or criminal trials for those who backed his opponent and dared to protest clear voter fraud.

“They weren’t protesters — don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists,” Biden said.

Now, flash back about half a year, when Antifa and Black Lives Matter were violently terrorizing cities, torching businesses, assaulting local citizens, even setting up “autonomous zones,” while “defunding the police” became all the rage among Democrats and other leftists.

Biden running mate Kamala Harris in June called the out-of-control riots a “movement” and prophetically warned on Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show”:

“They’re not gonna stop before Election Day and they’re not going to stop after Election Day. And everyone should take note of that. They’re not gonna let up and they should not.”

On Jan. 20, she’ll be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Contrast that with something else that also happened in June: Florida Republican Rep. Greg Steube’s measured, moderate congressional resolution condemning the violence (hat tip: Instapundit) and rioting across the country following Floyd’s death.

It should have been a slam dunk of bipartisan commitment to nonviolence.

Instead, Democrats voted unanimously to reject it. This, even though the resolution condemned Floyd’s death as “inconsistent with the values and conduct expected of law enforcement officers.”

The Democrats’ act of incitement had a predictable impact. The rejection of Steube’s resolution was followed by at least 22 other violent protests and riots in the ensuing weeks and months of 2020, leading to dozens of deaths and billions of dollars in property damage.

There’s no question that, by their refusal to condemn violence, congressional Democrats sent a clear and unmistakable signal to their shock troops in the streets: Violence by the left in pursuit of its political goals is acceptable; it’s a form of “street justice,” without mercy or mitigation, delivered brutally raw to its victims.

Meanwhile, violence by Trump supporters, or anyone else not on the left, is “terrorism,” or an “insurrection,” as the media and their bosom buddies in the Democratic Party now call the D.C. protests.

Funny how clear hypocrisy is to everyone but the hypocrite.

There are plenty of other examples of this dichotomy, especially in the media, which now routinely parrots Democratic talking points. A piece this week in the Daily Caller runs down a lengthy list of them. Here are just a few:

Six months ago The New York Times, which has been described as the national ‘newspaper of record,’ made excuses for rioters who attempted to take over the federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon.

It reported that ‘the nightly assault on the federal courthouse has been part of a much wider peaceful resistance … that began assembling nearly two months ago in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police.’

The Times continued, ‘the aim, as it has been in other cities, was to assemble for sweeping police reform and racial justice.’

Reporting on Wednesday’s protest in Washington, D.C., the Times’ ‘peaceful resistance’ suddenly became a ‘mob.’

Instead of ‘assembling,’ the protesters engaged in ‘rampage’ and ‘chaos,’ incited by President Trump, which became a ‘part of his legacy.’

Other examples were equally egregious:

CNN reported on the August mass destruction in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as ‘fiery but mostly peaceful.’ As CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez described the scene as ‘an expression of anger and frustration,’ the entire background was engulfed in flames.

Likewise, last year during the BLM protests CNN anchor Chris Cuomo made excuses for rioters.

Cuomo said on air, ‘Please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful.’

CNN’s stance did an about-face when reporting on Wednesday’s protest at the Capitol Building.

CNN reported, ‘America faces 13 days of danger before the departure of an unhinged commander in chief who set his mob on the U.S. Capitol in an act of insurrection that shattered a more than 220-year tradition of peaceful transfers of power.’

Follow the link above for more examples, if you’re curious.

The point is, just like the leftist politicians they support, the media conveniently forget their own role in all this “chaos” and fan the flames of hatred toward Trump, the GOP and conservatives in general.

The immediate response has been vile, with social media sites and others essentially “deplatforming” a sitting president of the United States, a digital coup.

Meanwhile, politicians and their media allies ignore the fact that they egged on the riots that raged for highly dubious reasons of “social justice,” pushed by Marxists and dysfunctional juvenile misfits.

Sadly, we’re watching the rule of law and public civility dissolve, all as part of the left’s unceasing political war waged against Trump since 2016.

  • The Left has been waging their war against America and her conservative half for a lot longer than four years. For decades, through our schools and universities, through our media and the dirty politics of the Left they have been trying to tear America down and turn it into a communist tenement run by them and their Chinese benefactors. It’s time to wake, Biden doesn’t want to unite he wants to put his detractors in camps and enjoy the wealth and power of this nation unrestrained. Anone who tells you otherwise is a list.

  • We are in a dangerous part of our history when journalists distort and falsify events, particularly when promoting a political perspective. Our local paper’s editorial this morning is just additional evidence of this ( Courier-Findlay, Ohio ). We cannot continue to have the so called mainstream media align itself with one political party. This has been happening much too long and, as a result, we are losing our basic freedoms with a Pravda like Press.

  • Wait, what? The Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) are a bunch of lying hypocrites? This is my shocked face 😮

  • Anyone who condemns patriotic Americans for marching on the capitol is more concerned about what they left thinks of them then they are about freedom.
They are always the first to lick the lefts boots and beg their forgiveness.

      • How stupid are you exactly? Had they succeeded? You really think a few hundred people are going to take over a capitol building successfully and will automatically grant Trump the ability to “stay in power”? Get your shit together.

      • I have posted a link above to all of the videos of the insurrection that I have been able to find so far on the net. If you just give them an unbiased look, you might conclude otherwise.

  • “They weren’t protesters — don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists,” Biden said.

My niece (anti-Trump) who works in Hollywood accompanied her father (pro-Trump) to the rally for the life experience. She was first surprised by “how nice” the crowd was, since in Hollywood they believe the mythology of Trump people being vicious racists. She says the plan was always to march to the Capitol after the speeches, but only to rally outside. She said as they got close they noticed two loud people with Trump hats and megaphones trying to stir people up to break in. She said the crowd was shouting “Get out of here,” seeing the agitators as imposters. She added that once they got to the Capitol the only fencing was plastic and a few metal barricades unmanned and unconnected. The Capitol police would walk into the crowd saying to go back, and that was it. She also said they walked onto the portico and saw people going in and out very calmly, as if they were on a tour. She said most of the crowd was opposed to those going in.

Bottom line, read about the Nazi Reichstag Fire, where Hitler’s people burned down the German legislative building and blamed it on their opponents. Then Hitler got radical legislation passed empowering him with extraordinary powers him to stop the “threat.”

      • george227: The “nice people” (Trump supporters) are the ones that El Gallo noted, “walked onto the portico.” The Leftists and Antifa are the ones seen scaling the wall for theatrical and dramatic effect and for the benefit of the MSM’s cameras. Hey, why use the stairs when there’s mileage to be gained “storming the castle!”

  • My gosh, folks, we all saw the violence and hate of the white supremacists.
Conservatives got fooled by Trump to advertise their true character, and nobody likes it.
    It’s Mirror Time.

    • That’s some very weak sauce given the seven plus months of dems rioting and looting.

  • The left only fools itself. The rest of us are fully aware of the truth.

  • So, you watched the attack on our nation’s Capitol by right wing extremists, and your main takeaway is Democratic hypocrisy? Perhaps a more important issue is know-nothings who are willing to attack a duly elected government of the United States based on a lie. Especially when the liar is the President.

    • Were you as hard on the extreme left-wing BLM (Burn-Loot-Murder)/antifa terrorist thugs that rioted, burned, smashed windows and looted business and their rioting caused innocent people to get hurt and killed in DemocRAT controlled states and cities all across this nation last year, and the police were ordered to stand down or were attacked and called racist if they tried to do anything?. You upset about that at all? Old senile, women-groping, little girl fondling pedo Joe and the rest of the DemocRAT ilk certainly was not concerned about it. They even encouraged it as long as it made PRESIDENT Trump look bad.

    • No one so blind as those who refuse to see. Here is a clue, THE ENTIRE ELECTION WAS A COMPLETE FRAUD.

      • My email notices show many of you folk write when it is a business day in Russia, but way too early or late here. They work for Prigozhin and are Abramov, Krylova, Bogacheva, Polozov, Bovda (2), Aslanov, Podkopaev, Vasilchenko, Kaverzina, and Venkov.

I think Bystrov was fired after the Dutch hacked into their website.
Look up Glavset. I am serious.

  • Wow!
Now I see what kind of ‘publications’ represent the 43% of the ‘malcontent’ and the politically uneducated.
    YOU!

  • I was there. It was a multicultural love fest for 8 hours. It was diverse America united against the lies of legacy media and censorship of big tech. Every race, every religion, every sexuality together and loving one another. It was joyful. It was Woodstock. The Trump speech we just heard included 4 different calls for law & order & peace. The media coverage is all out of proportion, no context.

  • Two points at hand as of Friday night:

First, when in history did tyrannies agree to negotiate and cooperate with their citizens who dissented from crushing destructive edicts and agendas by sociopathic leaders, without physical conflict?

And second, why can’t people learn that the best predictors of future violence are by those with a history of prior violence/ certain psychiatric conditions like paranoid psychosis, rampant chemical addiction, and cluster B personality disorders like antisocial and borderline types/ and finally, those who repeatedly threaten to be violent?

Points to weigh as the Left thinks they can crush freedom and autonomy without consequences…

  • And in other news, posts that Biden had 600 lawyers prepared ahead of the 2020 election in case he lost have begun disappearing on the Internet. sarc/
