Now We Know Why The Media Won’t Expose Trump’s ‘Whistleblower’

I&I Editorial

The mainstream press has been oddly incurious about the identity of the “whistleblower” who got the Trump impeachment train rolling. Now we know the reason why.

Real Clear Investigations on Wednesday published a bombshell account by investigative reporter Paul Sperry, who says that the identity of the so-called whistleblower “has been an open secret inside the Beltway.” There’s even a 40-page research dossier floating around on him compiled by former colleagues.

It turns out that the person who wrote the second-hand, factually inaccurate account of President Donald Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky isn’t just some careerist, non-partisan CIA official, or even, as Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson put it, a person with “some indicia of an arguable political bias.”

Eric Ciaramella is, as Sperry reveals, “a registered Democrat held over from the Obama White House, previously worked with former Vice President Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan, a vocal critic of Trump who helped initiate the Russia ‘collusion’ investigation of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.”

What’s more, Ciaramella left his White House post in mid-2017 “amid concerns about negative leaks to the media.” Sperry reports that, according to that 40-page dossier, Ciaramella also helped generate the “Putin fired Comey” narrative.

Oh, and he worked “on Ukrainian policy issues for (Joe) Biden in 2015 and 2016, when the vice president was President Obama’s ‘point man’ for Ukraine.”

As partisan icing on the cake, before filing his complaint against Trump, Ciaramella met with the staff of House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff – who is running the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry – for “guidance.”

This sounds like a whole lot more than an “indicia” or an “arguable” bias. In fact, it smacks of the very kind of Deep State that Trump has been talking about.

The press reaction to Sperry’s story? Complete and utter silence.

The only Washington publication to cover his revelations was the Washington Examiner, which has a conservative-leaning editorial board.

But that story, from the headline down, reeks of liberal bias. The reporter, Steven Nelson, spends the second paragraph of the story attacking Sperry, calling him “a partisan pro-Trump figure who … critics accuse of trading in disinformation and conspiracy theories.”

Well, we know Paul Sperry. He worked for Investor’s Business Daily for years, where the Issues & Insights team was before striking out on its own. (He’s written for us, as well.) Paul is a diligent reporter who has broken more stories than Steve Nelson could dream of. To brazenly malign Sperry using leftist tropes is journalistic malpractice at its worst.

Even more bizarrely, Nelson claims to have found “at least one significant factual inaccuracy in the report,” but never reveals what it is. This is the sort of sloppy, biased journalism we expect from the New York Times or the Washington Post or CNN.

That aside, there’s another reason the mainstream press won’t touch Sperry’s story. If it did, it would have to admit that it’s known the “whistleblower’s” identity all along. And that it knows his biases. And that it’s under no obligation to protect his identity. And, finally, that it covered up his identity to keep the impeachment train rolling.

So the blackout holds. The only interest the Washington Post has shown in Ciaramella’s identity is to blast Republicans for trying to “unmask” him. The New York Times laughably claimed that it didn’t know his politics or his name.

It’s no surprise to us that the mainstream press is carrying water for Democrats on the impeachment story. But even we are sometimes surprised and dismayed by its cravenness.

    • Ridiculous. Multiple witnesses, the rough transcript, and Trump himself have confirmed everything the whistleblower said.

      • There was no whistle-blower. Eric Ciaramella was a John Brennan mole inserted into the Trump White House to be activated with another scam at just about this time after the Mueller collusion hoax flamed out. A deep state deep fake is what this whole impeachment hysteria is, designed to protect guilty IC actors who are still trying to overthrow a duly elected President, Donald J. Trump. They have failed, will be exposed.

    • Multiple witnesses, the rough transcript, and Trump himself have confirmed everything the whistleblower said.

    • Trump supporters agree that the whistleblower is bad.
They can’t decide whether the WH is telling the truth (“seditious leaker”) or made up the story.
Of course, we know that multiple sources have confirmed the story.

      • Of course you haven’t heard anything from the sources that oppose the story who were on the call. Why do you think Pelosi just floated the idea that impeachment scam will have to extend beyond this Ukraine scam.

  • This one sided Ukraine witch hunt is farcical. Using the same emptiness in reasoning ability, the socialist-democrats continue to convince their drooling base that up is down and dark is light. They, with the aid and abetting of the MSM, try to prove that since Trump found out about Biden’s misdeeds in the Ukraine, somehow Trump is guilty of the crime. The epitome of 1984 doublespeak.

  • Decent Americans respect the rights of whistleblowers to tell the truth and not have their lives destroyed.
    Too many Trump supporters don’t.

    • telling the truth is one thing. the crap this leaker is spreading is anything but the truth. so take your fake outrage and spew it at idiots who will believe it.

      • What did the WB said that has not been confirmed by witnesses and the rough transcript?

    • Why would ‘his life be destroyed’? If he’s telling the truth, wouldn’t he be hailed as a hero?? The MSM would immortalize him as the guy who took out Trump!

    • You do realize it was Obama who prosecuted more whistleblowers than any other admin in history. So it is the dims who dont give a sheet about the rights of whistleblowers. Another flip-flop by that disgusting party and their media.

    • Oh Please! Helping construct a partisan hit job on the President is not “Whistleblowing”.

    • Whistle Blower protection provides job security and prevention of retaliation by the organization. It does not provide protection from the consequences of the action, nor does it provide anonymity.

  • So the IG identifies the seditious leaker as, “a person with “some indicia of an arguable political bias.”” And somewhere over the rainbow anyone expects the soon to be released FISA report from the IG to contain anything but more watered down BS?

Justice for some is justice for none.

  • I still dispute whether there was a whistle blower. I think the scheme was concocted by Schiff and IC IG Whitaker (another deep state tool), possibly with contributions from Ciaramella, but it was a group effort.

That’s why they needed whistle blower status so badly (with both the DNI and OLC denied Whitaker — on behalf of the “whistle blower”) — they needed anonymity to cover the deceit. Well, they didn’t get it, and to keep the fiction alive, they need the pretense of an individual whistle blower.

Being the loyal partisan that he is Ciaramella has stepped up to the plate — as if that confers any greater credibility on the farce.

  • Seems like I’ve heard this “dossier” story once before. How did that turn out again?

  • If the “Whistleblower” left his WH post in 2017, how could he possibly have been privy to the Ukraine call in July 2019?

    • He wasn’t on the call! That’s what second- or third-hand means. That’s why this kind of “witness” is no witness at all. This is the tell exposing the new conspiracy (or Part II of the initial conspiracy) to overturn a legally, and as it turns out, fairly elected president. And the irony is this: He will be reelected by people so offended by this effort and the Dems are essentially guaranteeing it. The media thinks Pelosi is playing him? They have learned nothing. His fits and tantrums are strategic.

      • Right. The WB was not a witness. Witnesses have testified that what the WB said was true. There is no longer any need for the WB. Why are Trump supporters obsessed with the WB? It seems that they just want to ruin his/her life.

  • Didn’t every sane person in the US know this was premeditated by the most dishonest people on the planet (House Dems). Good work, Mr. Sperry.

  • It is true just like Russia gate. We have moved on from Russia, Russia, Russia to Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine. This time it will work. Andrew Weissmann is working with Schiff to tie up all the loose ends.Nothing will save Trump this time. It is over.

    • Yeah sure, we’ve heard that line over and over … Trumps done , “it’s over” , and yet Trump is still POTUS … and come Nov2020 he will win again… you sore loser Dems are so sad!!

  • Chuckie Schumer warned Trump not to upset the Intelligence community. These guys are worse than the KGB.

  • I don’t understand. If Eric Ciaramella left the White House in 2017 and the notorious Ukraine phone call occurred in 2019, was there some other whistleblower who told Ciaramella about it? Ciaramella may have written the report, but who told him about it? Or is Ciaramella somehow allowed to lurk the shadows of the White House? Please someone explain to me how Ciaramella is the Whistleblower.

  • The saddest commentary is not that Dems continue to act like, you know, Dems. It’s not even that the MSM is completely corrupt. It is that we, the people, in a day and age when it isn’t too hard to find out what really happened, aka the truth, continue to buy into the blatant falsehoods because it feeds our needs.

I know so many Dems who used to be normal (relatively speaking) 15 – 20 years ago but who literally cannot discuss any differences about so many issues without getting “triggered”. And they think anyone with a shred of conservative, or even libertarian, thought is crazy? lol…

  • Nancy Pelosi’s decision to reverse her earlier position and pursue impeachment, despite the absence of any credible evidence of, “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” demonstrates a betrayal of her oath of office. It also shows a blatant disregard for the United States Constitution and the health of our democratic republic. She has earned a place in the Rogues Gallery of traitors to our heritage, along side Senator Joe McCarthy. In fact, she exceeds Senator McCarthy, since with the fall of the Soviet Union, we found out the he was actually correct about some of the Communists who had infiltrated our Federal Government. Pelosi’s whistleblower, on the other hand, turns out to be a hyper partisan political hack. Nancy Pelosi’s willingness to destroy our nation for partisan political ends has destroyed the Democrats chances in the 2020 elections. How can someone reputed to be so smart do something so monumentally stupid?

  • If this guy is a true whistleblower, why didn’t he blow the whistle when Hunter Biden got the sweat heat deal when whistleblower was Joe Biden’s chief advisor in Ukraine? Trump says something that may be construed as a quid quo pro but Hunter getting a million$ a year from Burisma doesnt deserve to be reported to the IG? If you’re such an expert on Ukraine maybe you would recognize that Hunter had no such expertise. Or maybe not because you are in the bag for the Democrats!

  • Perhaps the WH vetting process needs to thoroughly apply conservative common sense standards to its staffing instead of having an open door and welcome sign out for Brennan clowns. Too many WH hires have been been dem basket cases like Ciaramella who should have been discarded on the first pass. The same standards should be strictly applied to positions that have no or partial partisan bias. Dems are not normal Americans that one can apply normal open and honest standards to, there is always an agenda.
