Gore Says His Global Warming Predictions Have Come True? Can He Prove It?

When asked Sunday about his 2006 prediction that we would reach the point of no return in 10 years if we didn’t cut human greenhouse gas emissions, climate alarmist in chief Al Gore implied that his forecast was exactly right.

Some changes unfortunately have already been locked in place,” he told ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

“Sea level increases are going to continue no matter what we do now. But, we can prevent much larger sea level increases. Much more rapid increases in temperature. The heat wave was in Europe. Now it’s in Arctic. We’re seeing huge melting of the ice there. So, the warnings of the scientists 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, unfortunately were accurate.”

Despite all this gloom, he’s found “good news” in the Democratic presidential field, in which “virtually all of the candidates are agreed that this is either the top issue or one of the top two issues.”

So what has Gore been predicting for the planet? In his horror movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” he claimed:

Sea levels could rise as much as 20 feet. He didn’t provide a timeline, which was shrewd on his part. But even if he had said 20 inches, over 20 years, he’d still have been wrong. Sea level has been growing for about 10,000 years, and, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, continues to rise about one-eighth of an inch per year.

Storms are going to grow stronger. There’s no evidence they are stronger nor more frequent.

Mt. Kilimanjaro was losing its snow cap due to global warming. By April 2018, the mountain glaciers were taking their greatest snowfall in years. Two months later, Kilimanjaro was “covered by snow” for “an unusually long stint. But it’s possible that all the snow and ice will be gone soon. Kilimanjaro is a stratovolcano, with a dormant cone that could erupt.

Point of no return. If we have truly gotten this far, why even care that “virtually all” of the Democratic candidates have agreed that global warming is a top issue? If we had passed the point of no return, there’d be no reason to maintain hope. The fact Gore’s looking for a “savior” from among the candidates means that even he doesn’t believe things have gone too far.

A year after the movie, Gore was found claiming that polar bears’ “habitat is melting” and “they are literally being forced off the planet.” It’s possible, however, that there are four times as many polar bears as there were in the 1960s. Even if not, they’ve not been forced off the planet.

Also in 2007, Gore started making “statements about the possibility of a complete lack of summer sea ice in the Arctic by as early as 2013,” fact-checker Snopes, which leans so hard left that it often falls over and has to pick itself up, said, before concluding that “Gore definitely erred in his use of preliminary projections and misrepresentations of research.”

Unwilling to fully call out one its own, Snopes added that “Arctic sea ice is, without question, on a declining trend.” A fact check shows that to be true. A deeper fact check, though, shows that while Arctic sea ice has been falling, Antarctic sea ice has been increasing.

Finally — just for today because sorting out Gore’s fabrications is an ongoing exercise — we remind readers of the British judge who found that “An Inconvenient Truth” contained “nine key scientific errors” and “ruled that it can only be shown with guidance notes to prevent political indoctrination,” the Telegraph reported in 2007.

Gore has been making declarative statements about global warming for about as long as he’s been in the public eye. He has yet to prove a single claim, though. But how can he? The few examples above show that despite his insistence to the contrary, his predictions have failed.

Even if all turned out to be more accurate than a local three-day forecast, there’s no way to say with 100% certainty that the extreme conditions were caused by human activity. Our climate is a complex system, there are too many other variables, and the science itself has limits, unlike Gore’s capacity to inflate the narrative.

  • Al Gore….it’s beyond my comprehension that anyone still gives anything that this ‘Chicken Little’ says any credence at all.

  • Global warm FAILS the scientific method. Part of which is validating the theory through real world predictions. This article clearly demonstrates the fallacy that is global warming.

    • What about “the Poisoning of the Planet” due to our failure to invent an effective detoxification response to the 90,000 man-made chemicals we’ve been dumping into our spaceship’s biosphere, and children’s future quality of life expectations..

  • Actually, Gore is sorta kinda right. CO2 levels will spike over 400. The average global temperature will increase by about 5 degrees. Ocean levels will rise to at least 30 feet higher than now, there will be pine forests in Northern Canada. NYC and half of Florida will be underwater. Just like what happened during the Eemian, the last inter-glacial maximum, 135,000 to about 115,000 years ago. And during all of the 40+ ice age/inter-glacial maximum/ice age cycles before it, over the course of the last 3 million years. Remember, that was the last, not the hottest. During the hottest, temperatures were 10 degrees hotter, ocean levels rose over 100 feet, etc.
The problem is that all of those inter-glacial maximums happened just like the current one is developing, while Mankind consisted of less than a million cave dwellers hunting mammoths.and who were still trying to figure out this high-tech device called “fire”.
The problem is that the people who are out to make a buck off “climate change” are running around trying to con people into spending trillions of dollars trying to stop a natural process, while the solution is simple: People have this thing called legs. The coast may move 20 miles inland over the course of 200 years, but they can hoof it 20 miles in a day. If cold places like North Dakota and Siberia become habitable, people in places that become waterlogged or too hot can move there. Geologic events like the ice age cycle happen on a timescale of tens and hundreds of human generations, so panicking about whether your great-great-great grand-kids might have to move from NYC a few miles inland is ridiculous.

    • nice simple plan.

people can walk. until they get to Trump’s wall…or similar obstructions set up by the people who already live there.

meanwhile it’s not completely sure you will be able to grow bread in the melted peat bogs of Siberia.

other animals may find the Big Migration a little difficult too, not that you will care about them until you find out they were necessary to your life style in ways you did not think about.

however, I know that malaria mosquitoes find it fairly easy to extend their range north and up slope. so you won’t be alone after all.

  • Gore’s predictions didn’t come true because “global warming” is nothing but hot air.

  • “Sea level has been growing for about 10,000 years,”

It’s a little more complicated than this. Sea levels rose from about 20,000 to 3,000 years ago and were generally falling until about 1800. The rise since then has been insignificant.

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/06/06/the-holocene-sea-level-highstand/

Regarding claims that sea level could rise 1-3 meters this century… A 1 meter rise would necessitate an acceleration to a rate more than twice that of the Holocene transgression, This is physically impossible, particularly since the Marine Ice Cliff Instability hypotheses flopped.

  • I would agree with Al Gore 100%, and preach his gospel eight days a week ,if he would give me just one penny for every dollar he made running this scam .And Madoff went to jail for scamming ,small potatoes next to the VP

  • His arrogance far, far exceeds his intelligence……and this is the guy who almost became our president……..! And the ones running now are no better…..ha, ha.

  • Well if it is locked in then we can stop worrying about it and get back to living

  • Climate Change is a real issue here. If you have ever studied the earth’s history, you would know about the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). During that period carbon levels in the air rised dramatically which cause the whole earth to warm killing 70% of land lifeforms and 90% of marine lifeforms. Now it is the same but much worse. Carbon released now is much higher than during the PETM. The earth will continue to warm and we will soon all die if nothing changes.

  • This “passionate” plea is a subtle reminder to those that follow the climate messiah, Al Gore. The plea is “I’m still alive, flying around the world in my private jet, maintaining lots of homes everywhere and I still need money”.

  • Al Gore is pushing this story because he and his cronies are all set to become billionaires selling carbon indulgences once they’re required by the gullible regimes signing onto this farce.

  • ALGORE has made $$$BILLIONS by DUPING the MORONS from the Liberal Left, Radical Egalitarian, GODLESSLY Relativistic side of the equation! He STILL lives in homesteads that use MORE energy in ONE MONTH than most of us consume in one year, he commutes in an OLD, HUGELY inefficient JET aircraft, while the rest of us are told to use mass transit, and he donates virtually NOTHING to charity!

  • Climate will do what climate will do as it has for hundreds of millions of years. Meanwhile, decisions and policy need to be based on hard fact.

There are some crucial, verifiable facts – with citations – about human-generated carbon dioxide and its effect on global warming people need to know and understand at

    hseneker.blogspot.com

The discussion is too long to post here but is a quick and easy read. I recommend following the links in the citations; some of them are very educational.

  • So CO2 is about at 350 to 400 parts per million. That’s MILLION. On average about 1 part per million is added every year. It may be partly due to man’s activity or partly natural. C02 makes up about .04% of the atmosphere. I just can’t get excited about that tiny amount. OSHA has deemed that men and women can safely work in atmosphere of 6,000 ppm such as greenhouses, etc. C02 is necessary for all life on earth. The warmists are just trying to scare us into changing our lifestyles and especially our system of government so they can have more control. If they have their way, we’ll end up a dictatorship instead of a democracy.

  • My comments disappear, but have no all caps or nasty talk. But they provide another viewpoint, one from a person who actually earned a Master of Science in this field.

  • the funny and terrifying thing is that the author and most commentators happily point out at where Al Gore has been wrong, off in numbers and dates, ignoring the elephant in the room – what much improved scientific models tell us. And even considering the inevitable uncertainty, and the built-in imprecision of long-term forecast, but also the incredible risk, the optimal strategy is still to move away from fossil fuel as quickly as possible. Don’t listen to Al Gore, listen to cold capitalist minds of, say, insurance companies, they are most adept at evaluating the risks and costs. ——— As to popular pseudo-scientific talk about past cycles, if you really consider not just the amplitude, but the wave length, the speed of changes in the past, you you will understand how silly the comparison with what is happening in 21-st century. Fortunately, these views are becoming more and more marginal; unfortunately, because of them it may be too late

  • Gore is a world class snake oil salesman. He cruises around in his big jet giving speeches on a subject he was never educated for, for big bucks and checking out the massage parlors. His carbon footprint is said to be about that of seventy normal American families. It has made him tens of millions and shows how gullible the American people are.

  • so where are the guidance notes with this article to prevent political indoctrination. it’s really a sin…perhaps the synth cannot be forgiven… that you lie to fool the people to their harm.

  • Do you have any science background that makes you qualified to comment on this topic. As far as I can tell, you’ve just been commenting for years and years and you have no background in anything. So why should anyone pay any attention to what you have to say?

    • You hit the point exactly. The only reason folk deny climate change is their ignorance of science and their susceptibility to being fooled, emotionally-manipulated, like with Trickle-down and “WMD!”.

Sorry, but I earned an advanced degree in this field, and that is what I see.

      • George227, do you post comments on this site just to strut your “advanced” degree? To try to impress — and bully — other readers? Do you think that your “master of science in thus field” — we won’t ding you for the typo — fares well when compared with the scholarly work of scientists who have doctorate degrees and don’t buy the man-made global warming story that says it’s an existential threat? Would you care to debate Richard Lindzen, Ph.D Harvard; John Christy, Ph.D University of Illinois; Roy Spencer, Ph.D University of Wisconsin-Madison; Will Happer, Ph.D, Princeton, or Freeman Dyson, Ph.D, Cornell, to name a few credentialed scientists you would probably regard as “deniers”?

Or do you post comments to engage in virtue-signaling, taking up space to brag about your electric cars, and your residential solar power?

Fair questions, we think most would agree. But you don’t have to answer them. Just keep them in mind as you make comments on this site. And think about how your attitude is perceived among other readers. If we see it, they see it too.

      • Fair question? More like nasty snark. Yes, I would gladly debate those guys.

I was trying to tell you that you are being fooled by polluters and politicians. As a former engineer for a very large power company, this is my field, and most of you are not conversant with the technology, and not the implications for the environment. The cheapest power is now renewable, but that must hurt your feelings. Try this one on:
        https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Global-Fossil-Fuel-Subsidies-Hit-52-Trillion.html

      • Once again, yes, I would be very happy to debate those folk. As a former Senior Engineer in Technical Services back when Pacific Gas and Electric was the world’s largest non-governmental power company on Earth, I understand the implications of renweables and how to integrate them into the grids of today.

The cheapest sources for utilities in power sources are now PV solar plus battery storage and wind plus storage.
        https://www.utilitydive.com/news/los-angeles-solicits-record-solar-storage-deal-at-199713-cents-kwh/558018/

Show me one coal or nuke or gas plant which can compete with that.

      • Then the taxpayers won’t have to subsidize them. Be sure to alert me when solar and wind upend the coal and oil industries in the marketplace.

    • James

actually I do have a science background. I tried to teach critical thinking in two universities. that’s where i learned that pretty much you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him think.

in a comment that seems to have gotten lost i tried to explain in a few words how i came to understand that the climate scientists are scientists and the climate deniers are dupes or dupers.

i would not expect anyone to take my word for anything. unfortunately i no longer expect most people to take the trouble to actually understand anything.

  • There is a huge difference between climate change and AGW (human caused climate change). Climate change is real and has happened in the past and will happen in the future. AGW is not real the the extent the left claims. Yes humans do contribute but that contribution is extremely limited to about .01 degrees Celsius so far.

  • Al Gore has been wrong for thirty years because global warming has been pure fraud for thirty years. ” The heat wave was in Europe. Now it’s in Arctic. We’re seeing huge melting of the ice there. So, the warnings of the scientists 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, unfortunately were accurate.” A immediate refutation of Gore is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke26J0N74YI

    • Natural CO2 given off by plants trees etc are needed because it us the cycle from which photosynthesis is created which helps provide growth in plant matter in which also has to occur for plants to live and breath, and to be able to produce and provide food for humans and plant energy to survive.

    • far be it from me to claim that the media in general get it right. but from what i see here your standard of truth is “it agrees with what i want to believe.”

if you want to take yourself seriously you might begin with a careful reading of the post article and at least several other articles related to it, and compare that to the you tube refutation you are placing your faith in.

  • Al Gore was the mouthpiece for Soros and Maurice Strong (UN Kyoto Agreement)…Gore became Huber wealthy spreading this “new religion that the sky was falling” when it was a rise for a few to get very wealthy but more importantly for the globalists to control nation’s economies and control people.

  • if your suggestion that going past the point of no return means giving up hope and ceasing efforts to combat the problem, would that not align with the actions of the fossil fuel industry currently?

  • I don’t know much about global warming, but I can assure u all that the ice on Mt. Kilimanjaro has certainly reduced considerably. More than 80% of the ice has gone in the last 30-40 yrs. I should know, I live in Tanzania, not far from the mountain.

  • Anyone there who has seen the 1989 production of “After the Warming,” read 1972’s “Limits To Growth,” or 2012’s “2052”?

My avatar is a graphic representation of LTG’s Scenario #1. It is known as the “Do Nothing” curve. Included in that curve is our failure to invent an effective response, NLT 1975, to the 90,000 man-made chemicals we’ve been dumping into our spaceship’s biosphere, free to combine and recombine in unanticipated ways in our food chains, lungs, livers and children’s future quality of life expectations; aka, global population overshoot and collapse from starvation caused by that failure and the 6th Mass Extinction’s global consequences.

In the updates of LTG, the timing of the Collapse has become much sooner than the 2030 to 2050 expected in my avatar. I’ve heard that the Collapse will become obvious NLT 2024. To me it already is.

  • Gore likely has studied the inner workings of doomsday cults before he made his announcements. He must have seen that he can make announcements and when they don’t come true, he can just out another quirk into the equation and on we go. Its an eternal money shitter for him. Al Gore makes lots of investments through his different investment outlets. Why doing that if we are doomed anyhow. And why buying beachfront property if we are all to sink beneath the waves? The man does not apply his own wisdom to himself. But his believers are like the Peoples Temple of Jim Jones – in 1978 they committed collective suicide by drinking the Kool-Aid. Almost 1000 died – why did they end their lives? If you know that you also know why people continue to fall for the Climate sect.
