But that chart compresses a millennium into a short space, which exaggerates the appearance of an increase. A chart covering the last 200 years doesn’t have the same punch.
Patrick Moore, a Greenpeace founder who calls himself a “sensible environmentalist,” and has been whitewashed from Greenpeace history for the sin of breaking with its dogma that humans are “the enemy of the Earth,” posted the chart on his Twitter account. It shows global temperatures in Fahrenheit moving sideways with little variation, even in the most recent years. Temperatures begin at about 57 degrees in 1880 and are a degree, maybe two, warmer in the most recent year available.
“Always remember to check the Y-Axis in graphs meant to exaggerate trends,” Moore wrote. “This is the trend in global temperature since 1880 using a Y-Axis that doesn’t even span the full range of temperatures commonly found on Earth (-120F – +130F). Some catastrophe isn’t it!”
Moore’s chart won’t be seen in the mainstream media, covered on network news, or shown on the screen of a CNN or MSNBC broadcast. It goes against the narrative. It exposes junk science and a corrupt political agenda.
Moore has contributed more to the conversation than a single chart. At speaking engagements he presents multiple charts that should lead any reasonable person to be skeptical of the popular global warming claim. In one, he shows CO2 and temperatures “are not that strongly correlated” for the last 500 million years, “never mind indicating a direct cause-effect relationship between the two.” In another, he reminds us “the climate changed dramatically throughout history with nothing to do with CO2.”
“Those things that caused those changes have not gone away,” he added. “They are still here.”
Twelve years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency could classify carbon dioxide as a pollutant. Of course this is odd, because, as Moore has said, CO2 “is the most life-giving substance along with water on this planet and it’s doing the world a lot of good.”
“So I say, celebrate CO2.”
Unlike the messengers of the man-made global warming narrative, Moore makes sense. He’s even-tempered and humble. He doesn’t shriek, try to incite, or condemn.
In other words, his argument is as straight as the chart that refutes the hockey stick graph.
